Bizarre statement from Abel... He must see Golovkin seriously declining in the gym to say something like this. Being foolish would be letting Golovkin sit out until next spring.

“...bury their head in the sand from embarrassment...”
You do realize that Oscar was involved in a scandal where photos of him all glassy-eyed, wearing a wig, boxing gloves and full body length fishnets were released awhile back, right? He immediately denied the veracity of the photos and paid good money to an expert to prove that the pictures were photoshopped...only for Oscar to admit shortly thereafter that the pictures were real. It was also around this time that his CEO was found to be in collusion with a rival boxing promotional company and was siphoning off GB fighters, leaving Oscar with only one big-named fighter in Alvarez. And just recently a scandalous story broke in which Oscar was videoed sodomizing himself with kitchen utensils of all things. Oscar is now one of the men of this world that has moved past the point of shame. Once a man loses his natural, inherent fear of public shaming he is free to do and say anything. We haven’t seen the worst of Oscar yet.

    Update:

Loeffler confirmed that Golovkin wants 50/50 because he's the champion.

In the first fight, the split was 70/30. For the rematch, it was 65/35.

This is ridiculous. Golovkin's the champion and multiple belt holder, won the first fight, but was robbed, and then he lost valuable time and money because of Clenelo's doping.

Golovkin DESERVES 50/50, but they should make it 55/45 in favor of Clenelo just to get him back in the ring.

Now that we know that Canyellow is pricing himself out with his 65/35 demands, it is clear as day that ginger is the one who’s scared and that wants none of GGG.

Just curious...what was the purse split for the first fight and the one that has been canceled?

    First fight was 70/30.

Rematch figure mentioned is 65-35, but it's unclear whether that was the split for the cancelled fight or the latest round of negotiations.

They are asking him to sign a contract with a banned fighter, banned for cheating with the PEDS. If there were ever a time to demand more it is when you are the unified unbeaten world champion taking a fight against somebody currently banned for drug use.

Only reason this fight makes so much anyway is because it is both of them otherwise Canelo would be making that money in all his fights. Still he is the A side but right now he is a cheat and the challenger. Oh, and banned.

If they really cared about fighting a PED fighter they wouldn't be fighting Canelo for any money but that's not the case.

You know as well as I do that no matter who each fighter faces next Canelo will be earning a higher purse than GGG.

I have no issue with wanting more than 30% but 50-50 is complete unrealistic

65/35 is a disgrace. Clenelo lost the first fight and we all know it and then popped hot, twice.

GGG doesn’t need this kinda diva. 65/35, what a joke. I think 50/50 is fair considering all the circumstances.

And GGG took 30/70 the first fight. A 5 percent increase after all the crap Clenelo did is embarrassing.

    Clenelo’s image taking L’s everyday

It's obvious that Golovkin is trying to use the clenbuterol situation to get more $$, however it is my belief that what caused him to make this new 50/50 demand is the situation with the IBF.

Remember, the IBF still has not apparently made their ruling as far as whether they will grant him more time to face his mandatory. That decision is likely coming this week. It's important to understand that the IBF is putting a lot of pressure on Golovkin and his team. This has become a very difficult negotiation due to all the factors involved.

I think it's wrong though to use trace amounts of clenbuterol to demand more $$. Requesting that Canelo re-enrolls in VADA was one thing, to make sure he's clean. A lot of fans here are trying to act like Golovkin deserves more $$ beacuse he's fighting somebody taking PEDs. Or because Canelo's suspended. THe concern was alleviated with Canelo re-enrolling with VADA. You can't still use that as a reason to demand more $$ when Canelo has agreed to that demand from Golovkin. Both sides I think are going to have to compromise somewhere in the middle if this fight gets made, and that may hinge on the IBF decision.

If the IBF forces Golovkin to vacate unless he faces his mandatory by Aug 3rd, then it's probably going to make it a lot harder to make the fight, because naturally Golovkin will want even more since it would force him to vacate the title. If the IBF lets him fight Canelo, then that will take some pressure off Golovkin and maybe Golovkin will back off from his 50/50 demand and find a compromise to fight Canelo.

There's no doubt that the clenbuterol situation threw a wrench into the rematch happening. But I stiill think Golovkin fans on here are not being honest about what really happened, and are not giving Canelo the benefit of the doubt. There's no reasoning with people 100% sure he cheated, and defending everything Golovkin does no matter what. At the same time, Canelo's fault or not (for the positive test and getting suspended) as a fan who wants to see the fight, given the situation I would have no problem with Golovkin getting a bigger split this time around, given all the inconveniences that have occurred as a result. But those inconveniences i don't think should just be blanketly blamed on Canelo.

Canelo was as inconvenienced by all this as Golovkin was. And if you are open to the possibility that it was simple accidental meat contamination, you can't just blame everything that has happened on Canelo or GBP. For Golovkin to demand 50/50 is definitely a shock, but it also could be a strategy with the IBF decision looming to force a compromise. I really think the IBF decision is crucial, because I highly doubt Golovkin wants to vacate that title.
