shouldnt you be happy the top guys trying to fight the top guys in their division ? who says that a guy should move up ? and who says when ?
you want him to go up for what fight exactly ? Ward doesnt want it now , Froch either , you want him to go up and fight a #5 guy ? so you can say "he went up but is fighthing bums in SMW" , you only move up for a mega fight because there is no way to come back to MW in his age , so you wont just go up and campaign there HOPING to land a big fight , as you can see even as a mandatory he cant get a fight done , boxing isnt what it used to be dont blame GGG for Cotto holding MW belt hostage and dont blame him for fighthing in his weight class until a mega fight presents it self.

Cotto fights in the Middleweight division, and holds titles and belts thereof. He makes a public claim to being the Champion of said division.

Historically, and in current practice - the socially acceptable, even expected path for fighters is to seek to enter into pugilistic bouts with those who hold world level titles of note within the division they fight.

Regarding the topic at hand, Cotto makes a public claim to being the Middleweight Champion of the world based on his victory over the previously acclaimed MW Champion , one Sergio Martinez who earned credibility for his claim by defeating the previous MW Champion in one Kelly Pavlik, who earned his credibility to the claim by defeating one Jermain Taylor, who earned his claim by defeating one Bernard Hopkins, who earned his claim by defeating the holders of the titles issues by the major sanctioning bodies and was therefore Undisputed.

Currently one Gennady Golovkin however also claims to be the best Middleweight fighter in world, based on repeated destruction of rated opponents and defending his singular title issued by one major sanctioning body.

It is therefore meet and expected that Golovkin pursue a bout with the aforementioned Miguel Cotto to prove in definitive, violent fashion that Cotto's claims to being the best Middleweight are empty.

Should said Miguel Cotto be too weak of knees and lily of liver to accept such a challenge to his claims, then all have a right, even an obligation to doubt said claims.

On the other hand, should the aforementioned Cotto assess the situation and come to a conclusion that Golovkin is naturally too big and strong for a fair bout to be had then he is free to relinquish his Middleweight claims under no penalty of dishonor and would be encouraged to make claims of supremacy at a weight that naturally suits him and would result in fair and competitive match-ups.

Actually Cotto made a public claim that he is not a MW.

GGG will never get that fight and he must know it. Even if he did , he'd get no credit for trashing a blown up Welter.

The division is a mess. Cotto doesn't care that GG is waiting on him. He will do his own thing against Canelo.
Everybody moves up in weight to get better fights if there are not available.
