Let's just be completely plain about this, 153k ppv is disappointing but not a disaster. No point trying to pretend this is a good number, but it should not be overdramatized.

Prefight expectation was stated to be 150k-250k.

Yea, I'm surprised he was even offered that. I don't think people on here realize how much $15 million really is. That's EXTREMELY optimistic. Cotto made $8 million fighting Floyd. Canelo made $7 million fight Cotto.

    That was dumb, dude. Logoff.

It was a complete flop, simple logic though if Lemmy vs GGG did 153k and a fight later after he got a bunch of "new" fans. And he still does 153k again. How does that not equal a flop?! It's not like Lemmy or Jacobs super well known more than the other

As an American I have to agree. It's rare to find boxing fans here, otherwise I'd be on here less lol

There's only TWO guys in my office that I know of that are hardcore fans like us. TWO, out of 5,000-ish.

The way I read this was that his first PPV (Lemmy) did 153k and Jacobs did "well over that".

i'm happy with fewer idiots being fans. football and basketball are damn near intolerable anymore, due to high numbers of moronic fans.

The Lemiuex fight was promoted much harder, HBO expected 300k ppv buys. This one they only expected 200k, so while it's a disappointing number "flop" is too strong, they didn't lose money on it.

prob one of the few times i would agree with you...ive been a diehard football fan since the age of 8...and its getting harder to have a good convo ....especially without a fan of another team hurling an insults at the team ive rooted for since i knew what football was......

i think what annoys me most is when casuals i know say things like "man i bought mayweather/pacquiao such a disappoinment i really thought it was going to be good"......i cant even relate how upset that makes me and the many reasons why

In the business world, breaking even is bad, real bad. Flop may be harsh but as hard as they are trying to shove him down our throats makes this a flop. Especially when they make it seem like dude is just 2nd coming of SRR

What did people expect? Do you people realize how heavily hyped the Lemmy ppv was to only sell 150k? I've seen more promos for that fight than any in modern boxing and it escaped with 150k, not surprised at all by these current numbers.

Ironically, it's only good using the bashers' 97k figure. That'd represent over 50% growth despite GGG fighting a less popular opponent.

As it stands, I think this is pretty much GGG's base level he can expect until the Canelo fight.

Still annoying that 10 years ago, these kinds of fights would've been funded by HBO's regular business, and they've just shifted that cost to fans as they've slashed their budget. There's a laundry list of fights now that are too expensive to put on regular HBO but are breakeven at best on PPV.

Unfortunately for fans, when it comes to PPV boxing, breakeven is the new profit, and some profit is the new big profit. Everybody is making some money with those buy and live gate numbers, so there's no real incentive for HBO to change to a more fan friendly structure.
