Consider that the number of cable users in the US has dropped from 100million to 88 million in the past 5 years,
and that figure is dropping even more, then PPV as a vehicle for fights is on its' way out. It will be history
like closed circuit shows. Promoters will have to figure out another way of getting its' product out there other
than Showtime, HBO or other cable channels.

I cut the cable cord last year.

    It's a weird spiral we're in.

The networks are going to push more PPV because it shifts the burden of funding those purses from their ever-shrinking budget, but the demographics are against any sort of PPV growth because of what you just mentioned. What it boils down to is that the last remaining fight fans are having to shoulder more and more responsibility for funding big fights in this country. HBO's not going to quit forcing more on them until we're milked dry.

How much longer till another batch of fans burn out, and all the sudden 150k becomes a very good number with people starting to host PPV cards where only 50k buys are expected? We're not that far from there if Crawford-Postol is any indication.

There needs to be some serious innovation in the platform. Putting more and more marginal fights on PPV and overspending hedge fund investors' money isn't a sustainable long-term solution for the sport.

Golovkin speaks English and some Spanish. El Pollo can't speak English, no respect, too lazy to study English? When Kerniski asked me about Klitschkos years ago, I suggested Klitschkos go to Berlitz in LA to learn, they speak good English now, Vlad a little better than Vitali............Speaking English helps with a fighter's popularity, Kovalev speaks English and now Lomachenko speaks English pertty well..................

Wonder when Oscar will have his sex change? Oscar does not want his prize chicken, to get his feathers knocked off by Golovkin.............Did you know that Roid Jones had a prize ****? It's true.............he also got into trouble for **** fighting..........don't know if he is still into **** fighting now though..............why should a male chicken be censored? Chicken fighting is against the law, but Roid was into that at one time, don't know about now. El Pollo is not "prize" male chicken.............Roid would not want to own him.................

I would be so sad if this superfight won't happen because of an issue over the money split. Didn't they learn anything from Pac vs May?

I did, too. I have an antenna for national broadcasts, Roku stick for movies/tv shows, Mobdro for live international tv, YouTube for fights I miss.

The PPV numbers are certainly down in the U.S., but they'd be even lower if other countries charged what the U.S. charges fans.

All these PPV fights in the U.S. are televised over-the-air in other countries. They're seeing the same fights were are, they just aren't being gouged to watch them. So I just watch the fights being televised from those other countries.

We know boxing has become a niche sport in the U.S., thanks to forcing people to pay huge prices to watch the fights.

But there are still plenty of boxing fans who tune in when you just offer them good fights to watch ... like the Thurman-Garcia fight generated 5.1 million viewers in the U.S. a couple weeks ago (not including the million-plus viewers who watched it in other countries).

People shouldn't assume that just because some PPV numbers are down that people aren't watching. People still are ... more U.S. viewers are just deciding they don't want to be charged out the @ss for fights anymore that other countries can watch just by turning on their televisions. The internet has made that possible.

I agree with the above. My set up is: antenna with 187 local channels (ok most are religious in nature),
Amazon Fire TV and Stick and Kodi (loaded into Amazon as an app). I don't need anything else. I may
subscribe to the MLB app, but that's all.

Boxing needs a paradigm shift. I would suggest showing fights through an internet service and charge maybe
$5 for big fights, and free for all others. Advertising would make them their money in addition to the subscription
charge. This would be like the old days, where you had to go to a local theatre to see a "closed circuit" show.
