Pirog returns from retirement to handle GGG his first loss at (160). If anyone was going to do it, it is Pirog. GGG lucked out.

Cruel to even joke about. :verysad

Golovkin vs. Pirog is maybe the saddest what-if of the last decade in this sport.

For the record she thinks David's pretty hot now, so poor old Mario's had his poor old ass booted to the curb.

David Lemieux has one of GGG's belts at (160), Triple G is craving that unification.

I'd been waiting like a eager kid on Christmas morning for that match, I was telling anyone who'd listen that they had to tune in and see the best match they'll ever see, no one believed me....and all the hyping I did and all the enthusiasm I built up within myself and in the end all I got was ****ing Proksa.:sad2

 I actually was guilty of thinking all three of them could produce some glorious wars (and reign like a three-headed dragon at middleweight) ...until Proksa vs. Hope I. :!:

By the Golovkin vs. Proksa slaughter I knew it was an enormous mismatch, and I was also bitterly wishing it was Pirog (a real self taught slickster, not a wannabe faker like Proksa) in there as well.

I never liked Proksa his face annoyed me and his attitude did as well, at least it was fun seeing GGG beat his douchey ass senseless.:happy

 I showed my best friend that fight yesterday and she laughed at the entire beatdown, especially the final knockdown when Proska kinda flopped on the floor at the end.

GGG should have added insult to injury and switched his ring moniker to "Super G" after that night.

What exactly was Proksa going to do about it? Beat him up?

Approaching from behind with a stun-gun, maybe...

I think the DL fight has a good chance of happening, always have. (since he won the belt )

Just too much upside for GBP. Plus HBO really really wants it. Not only keeping the WBC belt on the line for C/C, but likely getting K2 to make a quiet deal to give Canelo a pass until Floyd retires and GGG-Canelo PPV can go on a Mexican holiday.... and also what better way to advertise and get people pumped for C/C than a GGG-DL fight, where its strongly hinted (even though it wont likely happen that way) that the winners of each fight will face off next.

In terms of building a promotion it doesn't get much better.

The worst thing that can happen, is DL gets some rebound dates on HBO. If Macklin can get one, DL can get two. All he even has to do is make it a real fight for a while, and his popularity wont hurt.

The best that can happen is he gives Canelo a clue on how to approach a GGG fight.. or better yet wins. In which case Oscar could build a huge MW unification PPV entirely in-house.

Have to remember, the long term goal is to build opponents big enough to put Canelo in Floyd territory, or at least get as close as possible. While at the same time if Canelo loses, having his opponent be big enough that its not too damaging. If you look at it from that angle, putting DL in with GGG now, while he can still obtain massive favors and concessions from K2 and HBO for doing so is pretty smart.

Because everyone knows, if he wants to build Canelo into the next PPV superstar... he can lose a fight, but ducking, getting stripped, or making a mockery of a mandatory and ducking it for years is not something he can do. GGG is too well known, and even Chavez eventually had to face Martinez - but the WBC shenanigans hurt his popularity. Plus Canelo would never stand for it anyhow.

80% chance GGG faces DL this Fall, and if he wins, which is actually not a guarantee by any stretch, and Canelo wins, then expect GGG-Canelo in Sept of 2016 after Floyd retires.

Just like with Rosado, I think people will like Lemieux even more for fighting GGG, win or lose. It all depends on how he performs. If he does good against GGG, people will say he's a warrior and he'll probably get more respect.

Rosado was made famous by that loss.
