Tom Sharkey's height - Shorter than 5 '8 ?

Congrats on the new word , but I think it should have two tees in it.

In 1919, 43 years old Sharkey ,cauliflower ear and all, married 19 years old film actress Rita Gardner.

This is a very interesting photo. this makes Sharkey just over one brick shorter than Jeffries, doesnt it? (i sure hope it is sharkey and jeffries). How does this sit with the reported sizes of fighters? about 3 inches different?

If Jim is 6' 1/2" then Sharkey isn't far off 5'8" in that photo. Looks like a 4-5 inch difference between them.

 

Greb was probably taller than 5'8

Sharkey looks to me to be built even stronger than Jeffries, though he was significantly shorter. Look at those legs, huge calves and thighs, and very strong lats as well.

Imagine how his build would look if he trained on a modern weight lifting program?

 

Sharkey looks so much stockier than Marciano who was 5'10" or so and around a similar weight. His height must have been no greater than 5'7".

 

Refering to the many old pics of him easily found with a google image search...

Both Sharkey and Jeffries must have shrunk.

 

jeffries is 6'2", if tom is 5'8" it looks right.
