Just part of the article, full article at the link :

WALL TOWNSHIP -- Two days before Jacek "Jack" Mazurek took off with friends in his Cessna 337 Skymaster from Monmouth Executive Airport, he asked Polish born, New Jersey-based professional fighter Tomasz Adamek to join him on the sightseeing tour.
In what may have been the most fortuitous decision of his life, Adamek declined.
Two days after his friend’s plane crashed at the Wall Township airport killing all five people aboard, Adamek was left grieving over the loss of a good friend. The heavyweight boxer said he doesn’t like to think how close he came to being on board that ill-fated flight.

‘‘I have an empty heart because he died,’’ Adamek, the International Boxing Federation’s heavyweight champion said today. ‘‘I cannot do much except pray for him.’’
Adamek, a Jersey City resident, said he joined Mazurek on several of his sightseeing flights in the past, but turned down Monday’s excursion because he didn’t like the idea of being in a small plane in the cold weather with still a lot of snow on the ground from last week’s storm.
‘‘He said ‘Absolutely not. It’s too cold and snowy’ and he’s afraid of flying in a small plane in that weather,’’ said Mariusz Kolodziej, a sponsor of Adamek.

Very smart to have turned it down due to the weather conditions. Terrible stuff.

I read about it yesterday in polish net. I dont want to think that he could have been there. It would have been huge lost for boxing world - boxing champion in his prime. Maybe this event will make Adamek even more strong mentally. You know Adamek is very religious person and he may think that the God gave him one more chance. I know that he is fighting for his father, who died when Adamek was 2yo and wanted son to become a champion. Such things can make somebody stronger.

They made a mistake, because Adamek has International IBF belt, not IBF belt.:good

WOW! I'm glad Adamek is still here with us. I think he'll do pretty well as a HW. He still has a lot left in the tank and seems to be revived as a Heavy weight.

I read that yesterday. It was shocking to say the least because I followed Adamek's career for quite sometime now and if he would have been on that doomed flight, it would shock the boxing world for sure.

If Adamek was on that flight, the whole flow of causality would have been different, and there's no guarantee it would have crashed.

+1. I was going to post something very similar. Reality is a very fluid thing, with interlocking causal events that seem unrelated, but might very well change an entire outcome.

Of course, that depends on what caused the crash. A sudden gust of wind or an icy patch or pilot error would be very much subject to a slight shift in circumstances, even if it just constituted miliseconds. But if the plane had some severe structural problem and flying it at all would cause it to collapse, then that's a different story.

:good Exactly. But I didn't think a long discussion on necessity, sufficiency and determinism was needed at that point. ;)

So does that mean The Lord wasn't with the people who died in the plane crash?

I see your point, because I think about it sometimes. However some things are determined to be, so other things dont have influence on that, or they have too small influence. I dont talk about that crash, just general.

This is threatening to become a very un-ESB-like intelligent discussion. So.....

    Boobies!
