Is there anyone in agreement with me that we may have a future hall of famer here in Adamek? He had a decent run at Light Heavyweight, lost to a very good fighter in Dawson. Moved up to 200lbs, beaten a few decent names and in his last 2 out of 3 fight he has beaten a former world champion in O'Neil Bell and the number 1 in the division (after Haye left) in Cunningham who held the IBF belt. In his next fight he is going to be facing BJ Flores, in March. These are three fighters who if he beats Flores outshines anyone else in the Cruiserweights resume. I think he has potential to be a future HOF, anyone else agree?
Not out of the question but he has a long way to go. The Flores fight is not on and never was.BOXREC jumped the gun.
I'd love to see him make the HOF but he's got a couple things working against him. One of which is the timeframe he has. He's taken alot of punishment over the last few years (he's not exactly hard to hit) so the accumulation effect may render him an old fighter overnight. I'd imagine he has about 2 years left to really make an impact so he's got to fight the right opponents. Unification would help (Jones, not Fragomeni) and a future fight with Alexeev down the line could do it. I'm a big fan of Adamek and I would love to see him go far but there are gonna be pundits who will argue that the Cunningham fight was not clear-cut. I felt that the knockdowns put Adamek over the top without any doubts but some don't feel that way. If anything, I was more uncomfortable with the decision Adamek got in the Briggs rematch. If the opponent had any argument it was that fight. Being Polish, it's hard for me to even say that but I try to be objective about things.
Plenty of HOF's have had tough close fights.Even Ali has been in more than one iffy situation.I dont think that will be held against him. DLH will have alot of those on his resume and he is a lock.
Is anyone in agrrement with me that say Haye who is getting alot of respect for being the Cruiserweight champion only had 3 fights of real significance:- Thompson, Mormeck and Macaranelli. Haye went 2-1 in those fights. Adamek has had 2 fights of importance at 200lbs:- Bell and Cunningham. He has gone 2-0. Now i would say Cunningham is better than Maccaranelli and Bell and Mormeck are pretty much on a par. If Adamek gets a couple of more good wins e.g. Mormeck or Flores he will have in my eyes surpassed Haye at Cruiser. Im rambling abit, abit pissed but what iam trying to get at is do you think the might be a case of Adamek getting overlooked for his achievements (if he carries on winning) because of the hype that surrounds Haye and what he has accomplished at 200lbs.
I'm not on the fence at all about the Cunningham fight. It was a clear victory for Adamek IMO but people will never stop being critical. I think that the people who said Cunningham won don't even believe what they're saying. They just want to see how far they can go with it. When a guy hits the canvas three times in three separate rounds you've got a real task in trying to convince other people that he won. Had Adamek lost every other round maybe but that wasn't the case. Nobody ever made O'Neil Bell quit and nobody was able to put Cunningham on the canvas 3 times. People weren't exactly lining up to fight Paul Briggs either. Adamek is a tough nut to crack and he can make a solid case for the HOF by doing exactly what I said. He has to unify the belts and beat Alexeev somewhere down the line. It may not be enough in the eyes of the HOF Committee but he'll have a case for enshrinement. As it stands he has alot of work to do before he even gets considered.
I like the guy... he's one tough Polak! But he's still got quite a ways to go to be considered a HOFer.
Definitely he is a helluva fighter. His only loss was to Dawson in a fight in which he almost stopped him. Both his fights with Paul Briggs and his fight with Cunningham were all fight of the year type of fights. Plus he beat former undisputed crusier champ O'Neil Bell. He needs one or two more big wins to be a top tier HOF fighter. I would already put him in right now for being the greatest Polish fighter in history and winning titles in two different weight classes.
I'm a Cunningham fan and had Adamek winning 114-113. Even with my close score, I don't see how you could give it to Steve. As far the HOF, he's got a long way to go. You should have to have a long, great career to be HOF eligible. The Briggs and SC wins are great, but they aren't nearly enough for greatness. I think the loss to Dawson shows that Adamek wasn't even the greatest light heavy of the middle part of this decade, much less all time. If he beats Cunningham again, unifies the belts at Cruiser, then rattles off five or six more defenses against the top guys around, then you can even start to talk to about HOF. In a phrase, it's very unlikely.
Adamek will move at 2010 in heavyweight. He will bring first heavyweight world title to Poland. The polish people deserved this because they wait for ten years from Golota to be that one but he failed to many times. Adamek is diferent, he is strong and time will tell us how will develop his style for next years .
