Which is an indictment on the era.

That said, I have said before that Burns should be applauded for facing Johnson, even though Johnson had to chase him by steamer and rail all over the world. At least he was no coward in the end.

O Brien, Hart ,Schreck,Squires,Lang,certainly were not heavyweight greats.It's probable that had Burns fought McVey, as was once intended Sam would have been the first black Champion.
