    Yes, but Burns and most other heavyweights also picked Jeffries to beat Johnson when they fought, and they were wrong, so what does that say?

    Its worth whatever you think its worth, but Burns did at least see Jeffries fight which 95% of those that rate him did not.

    This is true , but it did include Corbett, Fitz, Dempsey and Tunney.

    Burns,for probably the most bigoted of reasons,would never have admitted that Jack Johnson was the best ever up to that time.

    At least Burns fought Johnson and allowed him a shot at the title. That was more than a lot of previous and some later champs allowed a black man.

    Joking aside, I wonder if Burns racism was more pragmatic than supposed , he was an admirer of Sam Langford's .
