    Burns' ratings:

    Jeffries
    Johnson
    Fitzsimmons
    Dempsey
    Corbett
    Tunney
    O'Brien
    Willard

Burns says you may rate him where you like, but given that he beat O'Brien, I'd say he rates himself no worse than after Tunney, and ahead of Willard. I suspect he sees himself somewhere in the neighborhood of Dempsey and Fitzsimmons.

Given his praise of Johnson, this might lend some credence to the notion a prime Jeffries may’ve been too much for Johnson - at least, given enough rounds.

He seems to imply O Brien v Fitzsimmons was a HW title fight when in reality it was for the LHW title. I also think it was before Jeffries retired.

That’s just lazy. Always check your facts. A quick search engine hunt - or in this case, 15km hike to the station to take a rail trip to your nearest library, would have prevented this embarrassment.

He comes across as kinda stilted and awkward but also quite polite and congenial. Maybe he was just camera shy though. Still the shortest ever HW champ and, imo, a smidge underrated nowadays. He did the job of a champion by facing Johnson and it's commendable he never hid behind the colour line like so many of his contemporaries (e.g., Johnson).
