That isnt John L. Sullivan at the beginning. Its Billy Jordon who was the Michael Buffer of that era with his signature opening phrase being "Let 'er go!!!"

I've allways been impressed by Burns, he is fast on his feet , [ former class lacrosse player] , very good at gliding into range ,and back out again.Possessed good power in his right cross ,and was considered a master of infighting
He would allways be up against it fighting the super heavies ,[he looks like a school boy against Jeffries], but he was a very good fighter.

    What about Squires though?

As a fellow Australian about the most genereous I can be is that he looked very willing.Aside from that he has to be one of the most unskilled, wild and sloppy performers to ever contest the heavyweight title.

Boshter Bill had a padded record consisting mainly of no names and washed up,once decent fighters. It's little wonder a fighter of Burns' quality cleaned his cage out so emphatically.

Nice footage this, thanks for sharing it.

My first proper look at Burns but to me he looked quite good.

He had a nice relaxed bouncing style and fired some lovely long sharp shots of particularly that 1-2, he really used that jab well for setting up the crisp right hand and it worked. His style is not to dissimilar to many of the top amateurs around today IMO.
