I dont think anybody is disputing that he would have lost to Ali, Foreman, Holmes, Tyson etc, and I dont see how it is relevant to how he would have done against Marvin Hagler. The heavyweights he beat were not the best or brightest of his own era, but they werent stiffs either. This content is protected
How would Hagler have done against Ali, Foreman, Holmes, Holyfield or Tyson ? How would Hagler have done against
A more pertinent question is how he would have done against Marvin Hart. Hart was far from being the greatest heavyweight champion, but he was good enough to beat Jack Johnson. Is it a stretch to speculate than he might just have steamrolled Hagler, or that Hagler might have decided that the fight was a step too far?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XUDIXdef9rU http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZ_Dguh9hEE Burns did far better against Johnson than Stanley Ketchel. Jack Blackburn taught Joe Louis and he fought in and before Burns ... maybe you should offer your thoughts on all their bodies .... :hey
One Burns victim was Philadelphia Jacl O'Brien, who would go on to give a young Joe Louis a boxing leason, as an old man.
What, did Burns KD Johnson twice? They were pretty much exact contemporaries. Blackburn went a few years longer but also was incarcerated. He was shredded.
Hagler would beat the crap out of him. Anybody picking Burns is probably doing so because of his success against heavyweights which is nonsensical- Hagler is not a heavyweight and his record against fighters his own size is what matters. He couldn't do a thing with Max Schreck (a southpaw who dropped him) was held to a draw by a lightweight and was beaten by Twin Sullivan. He couldn't best Hugo Kelly. His best fighting weight was super middlish.
Maybe Hagler might've done as well as Burns did against the same HW's that Burns fought. After all the disparity in size wasn't as great between fighters the size of Burns and Hagler and the HW's of Burns' time as it would be later on. A 5'10" 180lb fighter in the early 1900's would be considered a HW so a 168lb Hagler might've been able to garner a few scalps back then...But both men would get thier heads handed to them against a HW from the 70's onward so who knows? I think a fight between Burns and Hagler, both at SM would boil down to style..and I think Hagler's style would see him thru. Burns was tough and could punch but so could Hearns and Mugabi and Hagler took bombs from both men and didn't flinch. I don't think Burns at SM punched any harder than these 2 men did so a KO isn't likely. It would come down to boxing ability and Hagler has the advantage. I still say Hagler by decision in a tough scrap.
Squires seems awfully unskilled....I really, really, can´t see a professional fighter in Bill Squires in this footage. No one should look that bad, even considering that this is only a small footage.
