What a really nice thread ,I hope he reads it.. he is a really humble fella and does a whole lot for the local community here in Hull. It is bitter sweet but like the rest of you i am glad he cannot fight on
Managed to see him live Vs Campbell and that epic war against Brizuela. Tremendous heart and provided great entertainment. Boxing needs a few more Tommy Coyles
Thanks for some great fights Tommy getting out at the right time I could’ve sworn he posted on here back when bellew was
Sounds like a sensible decision. Good to see a boxer getting out at the right time and not carrying on for the wrong reasons. Seems a sensible bloke so hopefully he’s invested his earnings well and can live a comfortable life outside of boxing.
Work near the Hull area, I don't think he gets enough plaudits in the boxing world and outside of it for the work he puts in. If you have a look at what's he has done, is doing and wants to do for the community at only 30 years of age, it's really impressive. You can tell he's a natural grafter. Glad he's retiring, it's at the right time and didn't have anything else for prove. Gave it everything, had some great fights, won Commonwealth title, main evented in Hull and fought on good cards in America, fan friendly style. When he looks back in the future, I think he will be very happy with what he achieved.
I think his last performance epitomised his career perfectly. Having just been put on the deck by Algieri, with the ref doing the count, instead of listening to the referees count he’s looking at Algieri gesturing “come on then”!!
Agreed and that fight against Brizuela has to be one of the fights of the decade, especially around that level. It was starting to become quite obvious though that his best days were long behind him and carrying on would have been detrimental to his health. Good on'im and hope he has a bright and successful future in whatever he decides to do.
Down to earth lad by all accounts and his no ****s given style was a joy to watch. But as others have said on here that style makes for a limited shelf life. Good luck with his future ventures, his pub/club and boxing coaching.
