Both Farr and Godoy put up gutsy fights against a young Joe Louis. Farr losing a unanimous dec and Godoy a split (the rematch he got battered) Against Tyson of the Smith fight and the Biggs fight.. How would those two fare?
Farr likely would’ve been stopped in the middle rounds had Louis not injured his hand so I see Tyson doing the same, and Godoy likely gets a quicker version of the Louis II beatdown
For me.. Tommy gets KO'd around 5-7 rounds, he'd hang in tough as nails but Tyson just too fast. Godoy may give Tyson a few rounds with his akward, crouch style but it really don't see him getting past the 5 eh.
I see Farr going the distance win or lose. Can't say the same for Godoy, once Louis was accustomed to his awkwardness it was open season.
Maybe but I don't see him being able to push Tyson back. Louis didn't have a problem being on the back foot so he accepted it more than most would have. Godoy also didn't pack much of a punch.
Why would he not push Tyson back? In any case, Tyson needed his space to operate and Godoy would continuously be pushing himself into Tyson and robbing him of that space. Considering how many times Godoy was knocked out in 21 years of his career and how many punchers he faced, I think he would go the full twelve with Tyson, with a decently puffed up face by the end.
I will admit that Godoy is one of the Louis foes that I haven't looked far into. Godoy was tough but he didn't really have a lot of power. He was the sort of fighter (from what I can tell) that moved forward on his opponent. Tying Tyson up and clinching is one thing but if there's not much power coming in his direction then I don't like his chances.
Not an amazing puncher but not weak either, with 52 kos. It wasn't his power that allowed him to survive Louis though, it was his crouching, clinching and the complimentary iron chin and stamina. He fought Roscoe Toles 8 times, Turkey Thompson, Tony Galento, Isidor Gastanaga, Alberto Lovell, Leroy Haynes and even a past it Firpo. None of them even came as close to knocking him down. It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if he survived Tyson.
