Farr was a tough guy with a decent Jab. He's one of the few Joe Louis did not re-match. While Louis won a close one on a fair score card, he was in fact stunned by the Welchman ( round 11, I think. Could be round 9 )
Tommy was tough. He seemed to fight hard enough to keep a fight close whenever he fought the really good fighters rather than really press for the edge. He certainly knew what he was doing. I dont know if this was a habit from the booths. He was extremely experienced at such a young age. Very good at smothering inside. Intelligent and economical tactician. Good at looking busier than he was whilst dictating pace. Definitely an older head on young shoulders when he fought Louis. In that fight he seemed to know too much for Joe where Tommy was wisely able to orchestrate a boxing contest on his terms against a much more dangerous foe rather than succumb to a shoot out on Joe's terms. A lot of Farr's filmed fights could have went either way. There is not much film like this of clear wins of his to fully assess him. This and the Neusel win is about it. Footage I've seen of the Burman and Baer wins looked more like losses, but that could be due to the highlighted film.
