Froch gets to him, super middleweight was his weight, Hearns was vulnerable above 154lbs.

It would make sense to use the 1987 version of Hearns that jumped to LHW and beat Andries. He carried 175 or close to it well; I'm not sure whether the fight was day before weigh-ins, but probably best to assume that Hearns wasn't cutting to make it. He'd be a decent size comparison for Froch at 168; it's hard getting accurate info sometimes but I don't think Froch was a big weight-cutter at 168, even though he obviously was very strong at the weight.

Froch had an exceptional chin, but he also took a lot of shots flush, particularly right hands. Size aside, Hearns would by a distance have the most dangerous combination of speed and power that Froch faced, and it goes without saying what Hearns' money punch was.

Given Hearns' speed and accuracy, and Froch's defensive lapses, it's safe to assume that Hearns is going to land that right hand, and probably frequently. You're then in the realm of whether Froch can shrug off a sustained flow of one of the most celebrated punches in boxing history. It's definitely possible, but "Froch has an iron chin and is naturally bigger" is doing a lot of heavy lifting in the keys to victory.

Froch has a lot of the physical attributes that could cause Hearns problems, and I understand the argument that he could weather an early storm, rough Hearns up, and stop him late. I just don't think it's the most likely outcome; I think Hearns may well stop him at some point, but even if not I'd fancy Hearns to outbox him down the stretch and not fall apart under pressure.

Illuminating post and Yes....Froch also made powerpunchers look impotent. He fought men listed as the big punchers of their time...like Arthur Abraham and made them look lambs.

Froch was a real oddity...he had some of the 'slowest' cumbersome punches but quite extraordinary reflexes...and somehow in duels with speedsters like a young Andre Dirrel or Jean Pascal.
Carl was also a great finisher and many times he did it late as with Jermain Taylor and Brian Magee.

I'd clarify my earlier post.

I consider the Hearns who fought Andries and weighed 165lbs ( it was reported he carried pocket weights at the weigh in) a super Middleweight version of Hearns...as was the fading guy who fought there later in 88-89.

Froch loses to the former .land beats the latter in my opinion.
