That's not the story from his opponents or the guy I used to know who sparred with him in 93. No, he was not a skilled finisher but dictated the action with his power and strength (he was abnormally strong for 154) and still held a decent KO percentage for his career. More to the point I think he has sufficient power versus Hearns to make this interesting.

And like I stated earlier, I would not place money on the upset, just that I think it is an intriguing match-up.

There isn't a bunch of footage readily available of the guy but I was lucky enough to be at this fight...

Winky was inexperienced then. Vasquez was a decent hitter, but didn't have the kind of power to make Hearns entirely wary of him.

Well there's a difference between power and being able to apply that power at the world stage, yes?

What do you think of the Wright fight? A fluke?

23 years old and 25 fights is not entirely green but, yes, inexperienced on the world stage.

And the way I see JCV winning this is by taking out Hearns' legs as he did with Wright, as Hagler did with Hearns, also.

I think Tommy would win by mid rounds knockout. Not a hard fight for a 154 pound Hearns.

I think Wright hasn't got anywhere NEAR the offensive abilities of Hearns, and that if Hearns was allowed to hit him as many times as Winky did, Vasquez would be knocked out three times over.

Besides that, I think Winky was basically a turtle without his shell in that fight. Very vulnerable. With his developed defense, he beats Vasquez, though not without a struggle.

How could Wright be a better boxer than Hearns, "many times over"? Hearns outboxed such great boxers as Leonard and Benitez.

Also, Whitaker would have no chance of outboxing or outpointing Hearns at 154 and 147.

Whitaker was MILES above his best weight at 154 and in no way comparable to Hearns there.

Hearns could often outbox boxers and outpunch punchers. His was a lethal mix.

I think Hearns would hand the right hand with tremendous frequency, and stop Vasquez in the middle rounds

Before anyone says you're bised, you scored Hop-Winky for Wright didn't ya'?! :D

I've made my appreciation for Ronald clear many times but....just no.

    Next up: Boudouani Vs Hearns.

 We can't write Boudouani off, he crushed the iron jaw of Vasquez!

Had Hops-Wright a draw actually, but yeah I'm definitely a Wright cheerleader: think he beat Simon and Taylor as well and did enough for a draw with Vargas.

Yeah I felt he deserved more from the Vargas fight.

Hm, yeah, Tommy was greater and better. No doubt. And if he, like pointed out, boxes first, opens Vasquez up and let the hard punches come naturally later on he might stop him in the later rounds, if not he wins a very clear decision.

But, as we all know, Tommy could be dragged and liked to fight. That´s where JCV chances are. He has a very good if not great chin, very good power, albeit not a very good finisher, good bodypuncher, and he was a gritty fighter, who would come after and pressure you. And he was a southpaw. If he manages to drag Tommy into a fight he might be able to take away Hearns´ legs and knock him down a few times, stopping him late. Not out of question IMO.

Hearns should be the fav though, 70:30, my money would be on a Hearns UD.

BTW, I rate Vasquez and consider him pretty underrated. I had the Pea fight a draw before making the deductions.

Certainly a better JMW than Miguel Cotto. He'd hand Canelo his arse as well.
