Tito is a slow starter and that would be his down fall against a fighter like Hearns, IMO this would have been Hearns vs Cuevas all over again.
You beat me to it. The fight would probably be over before it started. Hearns would be all over Tito like a cheap suit.
I don't like Trinidad's chances. He constantly showed vulnerability to the straight right hand. Carr dropped him with it, so did Reid, Hopkins hit him over and over with it. Even DLH, known back then as being too left-hand happy, hit Tito with consistency with the straight right. How many fighters in history had a better straight right than Tommy? Not too many. On top of that, Hearns had an awesome jab and terrific boxing skills from the outside. Of course Tito with his power and finishing skills is a live underdog. Hearns's chin was never great, it became more shaky at 160, but he all it took was one left hook (Tito's best punch) from Leonard at 147 to badly rock him. But I don't see Tito likely to win.
The fact is that Trinidad could get hurt early, and get dropped as well. The guys that weree dropping Tito in his career were not of Hearns caliber with power and finishing skills. Once Hearns hurts Tito and drops him, he finishes him. You need an anvil of a chin against Hearns at ww...
I would have loved to have seen this great matchup of great power on display. It would be fun while it lasted but Hearns takes it.
hearns wouldve killed him before 4 rounds. hearn's reach, power, and speed would be too much for Trinidad. what a slug fest it wouldve been.
