The title of the thread was
“Tommy Hearns vs Floyd Mayweather Jr @147” not 154

Floyd was undersized, essentially still a welter when he fought DLH at 154 and he still managed to win. Hearns at 147 is not the same as at 154.

Floyd couldn't crack an egg at 147.

It's really strange how Canelo showed him respect but was willing to go to war with GGG.

It comes down to whether Floyd could take away Hearns's jab. If he could figure out how to that, he'd have a chance in a low punch output affair.

Hearns would be the variable not Floyd. Hearns usually loved to pick guys apart and that was his weakness. But with Floyd he jabs and when Floyd dips down to avoid the jab a right hand comes. Like with Ray the way Tommy did best was to keep it simple. Jab and right hand. And Floyd is not a tough fight for him. The guys who would be tough for Hearns were the physical guys who make him fight, and they still had to deal with his power before they could use that style.

Floyd is a tough fight for anyone at 147.

I think Hearns would edge a decision....

But as much as I am not a Floyd fan, I have grown in my appreciation of his skills. I don’t see anyone blowing him out 148 and under

Canelo at 160 is twice the fighter he was at lighter weights. Seems to me the weight drain really killed his performance.

He is but Hearns style and reach if Tommy fought smart and did not give Floyd anything, probably an easy enough fight. Floyd will not press him much, and if he did hearns would have the right hand. It is actually not a complicated fight for Hearns.. The complicated fights were the physical guys who made him fight. But Floyd? I don't see that as a problem at all. Rather easy fight stylistically. He would probably just need to jab and then drop the right in when Floyd tries to make any move past the jab and then keep jabbing. He might be able to stop Floyd by TKO about 9 or 10. If not win a decision. I don't think he would knock him out in one round. But He would win.

Well, Benitez gave Hearns a half decent challenge and I think Floyd was better than Benitez (let’s not do that argument). Hearns would’ve had a far better career if he always fought smart. That was one of his big issues.

Btw he did blow away Cuevas and Duran, so aggressive fighters didn’t always get to him.

    I think Benitez beats Floyd.

Floyd is smaller than Benitez. He is a low risk taker. How would he even get to Hearns.Easy fight for the Hitman.

    Floyd Mayweather—72 inch reach
    Benitez—70 inch reach

They couldn't reach him and he counterpunched well and at a the lower division which is where he was at his best. I will say this. Benitez fought better guys than Floyd and to me was better defensively. Floyd handpicked very well.
