Tommy Hearns vs. Floyd Mayweather Sr. in 2012 ~ Who Wins?

    I talked to Floyd Mayweather Sr. on our latest radio program and he confirmed the rumors about an exhibition match between himself and Tommy Hearns being in the works for this year. Mayweather Sr. said he wanted to fight a rematch with Sugar Ray Leonard, but he turned down the fight. Senior last fought officially in 1990 and will be 59 by the time this bout takes place, Hearns who last fought in 2006 would be 54.

    I'm not so sure. While prime for prime Hearns would have no trouble at all, we are talking about the condition of each boxer now. Some fighters, and people age better then others. Sr. even at almost age 59 seems to gave very good reflexes, and now with his improving health, he claims he will be able to run for the first time in years. The gym match shown was done out of the blue, and Sr. who had not boxed anyone in the gym in a long time, gloved up and went into the ring cold, and while not in boxing shape.... he still looked pretty good. I'd have to favor Sr. at this point, as there is no video of Hearns fight beyond 1998, and there is no way to tell how his reflexes look at this point.

    Hi Jenna. You're probably right, Hearns could be in a wheelchair now for all i know. He could be in any sort of condition.

    By contrast Mayweather is running the likes of peak UBF world champion Charlie Zelenoff 21-0 clear out of the ring.

    The Mayweathers' were brilliantly flawed. I was going to go for Tommy on points; but that right hand and the Mayweathers' seemingly genetically average chin, made me think twice.

    Floyd Snr has lived a very hard life...

    I'm not sure why, but even though Sr. was facing only Charlie Z, and he did not just take him out of there like you would think, I was still really impressed with the way he moved for a man of his age and health. Floyd Sr. has been battling a lung decease for 11 years, and just started to recover from that now, so to be able to even preform like that is amazing. I would be very interested to see what he would look like fully trained for a fight. Hearns would have height reach....but I highly doubt he will have the speed and reflexes that Sr. has......I'm going to take Sr. to win, by surprising KO in the second round.

    I just keep thinking about how an aged De La Hoya's jab troubled Junior as much as it did. All Hearns has to do here is leave his right hand at home and do what he did against Benitez. Just be that guy, that's all. Mayweather can't win that.

    I went with Hearns by decision. Too much speed, power, height, reach, footwork. But Floyd has great D so I see him going the distance somehow.

    Floyd has a TON left. He's the oldest badass I know. In great shape, still totally sharp, and mean. I dislike the guy quite a bit, but just saying Hearns, whose damn punchy and has way more mileage because he was that much better when they were younger isn't quite it.

    Snr. wins today, and after working with him in a gym two years ago, I'd lay money on it.
