Lacy was never that good ... it was said before he even turned pro that he has trouble with boxers ... that was his assessment after the olympics.

Calzaghe isn't a better boxer than Hearns ... thats crazy and his chin was underrated.

Cal beat The crafty Hopkins who was better then Hearns. Plus 168 wasnt tommys best weight, Joe would be the bigger man. Hearns would have a punchers chance but considering Joe has a solid chin I cant see himt aking Cal out. Care to add any analysis?

Calzaghe has hardly beat anyone besides Hopkins, Kessler and Eubanks. I can't name anyone else worth mentioning.....maybe Lacy but i'm not sure

I don't know, it's always tough to gauge how a guy is going to fare when he moves up in weight. It's generally harder for guys who rely more on strength and raw power to be successful than those who rely more on technical skills and speed. So that favors Hagler in some areas, because he was a boxer for most of his career. He would presumably be faster than a lot of guys at 168 (who would be at 175 in Hagler's day), but in the fights in which he did brawl more and use more strength and power (Hearns, Mugabi), he'd be going up against naturally bigger guys.

Even pre-Calzaghe, I would've picked Hagler size disadvantage and all, to outbox Lacy.

Lacy favored over Hagler pre-Calzaghe? Who are all of these people that supposedly thought Jeff Lacy was the second coming of SRR? The only people who had Lacy rated so high were Calzaghe nut swingers because they were shocked Calzaghe was fighting someone with a pulse. Most people with any amount of boxing knowledge thought it was a pick'em fight with a slight edge to Lacy.

Talk about revisionist history to build up your own deity/hero in Calzaghe!! I REPEAT NO ONE WITH ANY BOXING KNOWLEDGE WOULD HAVE EVER FAVORED LACY OVER HAGLER.

It's unfortunate that people have to get so carried away supporting their favorite fighters.

Yeah Hearns hasn't fought in quite a while. You're prdiction sounds correct.:yep
Prime for Prime I still think Hearns makes it 12 but loses a SD.

Take a look at the dates leading up to that fight (up to the first April Entry), Lacy was VERY highly touted.

Hearns was a great puncher but not a great boxer? do you have any idea what the hell you're talking about? in what ways is Calzaghe a better boxer than Hearns?

I'm not going to bother looking at archived posts on Eastside Boxing. If your trying to prove a point that a bunch of guys posting on this website are even remotely credible opinions, then I can't really argue with your logic.

"Lacy was very highly touted", yeah by some morons on a message board. Kind of explains the Calzaghe opinions that fly around here also.

Man, I loved to watch both of these guys fight.

I'm gonna say Calzaghe by SD, just like the Hopkins fight.

If you think Hearns was more of a monster than Bernard, I would be shocked.

Utter bollocks, Hearns would have comfortably jabbed Slappy to death for 12 rounds if necessary but it wouldn't have lasted that long anyway. Hearns by vicious KO. Hopkins and Jones were too old to finish the job, Hearns in his prime wouldn't have been anything like so charitable.

    Calzaghe easily.

The size alone would be more than enough. Had they been the same size, Joe would have won a narrowish UD.

If Hearns couldn't beat Iran Barkley at 168 then I very much doubt he'd beat Joe.

You are delusional. Hearns would flatten Calslappy.......if Hopkins had him down....then Hearns would knock his head off.

Calslappy should not even be mentioned in the same breath as the "The Motor City Cobra".:good
