Virgil Hill is a first-ballot Hall of Famer. That win was better than anything on Calzaghe's reusme, sorry to say.
Hearns took a lot of bombs in his career. I think people think because he was stopped that he cannot take a punch. What fighter could take the right hand punch Barkley hit Hearns with in round 3? Think about that? Calzaghe would have gone down with that. Benitez was not hit with many bombs with Hearns or he would have been knocked out, but Wilfred had that great defense. Leonard was slippery, but Joe is not as slippery, just that Joe is busy and almost similar to Pacman. Pacman and Calzaghe are so busy they do not let guys get thier rhythm. I believe Jones and Oscar can look ok if they fight other guys in their next fight. But Hearns would not fall for Joe doing his slapping. I think Hearns would wait for Joe to get close and fake him in with jabs and then move forward with a right. I just do not see Calzaghe taking a big Hearns right. People have to bang away at Calzaghe and no one has. Hearns would. Hearns sometimes did not throw his big punches in fights against guys like Dewitt or Olajide. I am not sure why. I think he wanted to save the right so he could use it in this big fights. But when he needed it he used it well. And that Hopkins right which put Calzaghe down was not hard enough to hurt Tommy. You guys underrate Tommy because he fought Leonard and Hagler, two of the top fighters of all time.
Leonard was well past his best and was not slippery vs. Hearns #2. Hearns landed a lot of his vaunted rights on Leonard the whole night, but Leonard weathered the storm, and it was Hearns @ the end who was ready to go. Had that fight gone on to rounds 13-15, Hearns would most likely have met the same fate he did in round 14 of fight #1. Calz. took a Fresh Jones best shot bone to bone in round 1, got up a bit shaken but within seconds he was back in control. Calz. has a very good chin and amazing rucuperative powers. Plus he's been very successful at nulifying his opponents best weapon; it happened with Lacy, Kessler, Hopkins, and Jones. I've always been a Hearns fan but I think Calz. would take him into the deep water and win this one.
hearns by ko early, unless joes Cardiff ref stops the fight when hearns slips and does that thing where he gives joe a ko win.
yep early ko by cardiff ref rulling a hearns slippage was a ko, baileys got the swing of it now. good thing joe is far from best smw ever. that'd be roy jones, probably, with ward not far behind. roy jones would beat hearns probably, though it'd be one of his hardest and he'd need to be be prime jones. I think ward would have the edge too. Yet I am afraid without a cardif ref to save him and ward hmi the win when he gets dropped in round1 , joe is in for a pasting.
Like how he KO'd old 'Nard and Roy, and Lacy, Kessler, Bika, Ashira and Salem you mean? Yeah I can see that happening.
Cagazghe waits for Tommy to get old then challenges a shot version of him and wins by us thus adding to his exaggerated legacy
of course, that's what joe would do, call out a 50 year old hearns. and still get dropped in round 1 and outboxed until hearns gassed, then outwork and repeatedly mock/fake se.x with the gasping hearns to a split decision victory.
Not one of those wins were prime Calzaghe and HEarns arguably didnt have a chin as good as any of those fighters. Lets not forget 4 of Hearns 5 losses were inside the distance and if he had of fought prime Calzaghe at SMW there would most likely have been another
hearns destroys cowardzaghe, with no chance for joe to rally back if its prime hearns instead of 40something one.
