    At 147 over 15 rounds.

Might have been done before so apologies if it has, but after the love that Tommy gets I presume many will pick him to win most if not any fight at 147-154. How does he do against one of the toughest fighters to ever grace the Welterweight division who was never an easy fight, even for the great SRR?

Wow I dont know. From what Ive heard Kid gavian's
Chin would hold up to even TTommys power. Im gonna
Go with Kid Split decision. However, I could also see
Tommy stopping him, or Kid stopping tommy late
And using his bolo punch for maximum shock value.

I'd take Tommy by decision. Gavilan was roughly the same height as Leonard but with 3 inches less reach. I think he'd have the same problems as Leonard, fighting uphill all night against that jab, right hand, and underrated movement of Tommy's. Leonard definitely had more power than Gavilan also and was a better mover.
Having said all of that, Ray did not fight a brilliant tactical fight that night. He let Tommy off the hook in the middle rounds and let Tommy dictate the fight from the mid to late rounds. In my opinion, it took some mammoth body shots to turn the fight around for him.
I think Gavilan would pressure Tommy more intelligently and consistently but ultimately I think he lacked that one punch firepower to stop Tommy. I find it difficult to imagine too many welters decisioning Tommy.

Hearns wins in a good, high-contact fight by decision.

I think Tommy might shade it by a point or two, but Gavilan's a live chance for a late round KO.

Despite not having Ray's power, Kid was quite a bit physically stronger than Ray imo, which could see him getting close enough to land more than Ray did.

I also rate Kid's chin better than Ray's, but he'll probably need it if he plans on landing frequently on Hearns.

Hearns is made to fight faster than he wants to all night. Fades badly in the stretch. KG takes a disputed points decision.

i picked Hearns but this fight is so close that i dont think anybody can argue to much either way the only thing is for me Gavilan is more likely to perhaps stop Hearns late than win on pts .This though is a great match-up

Personally, i don't think KG could be stopped at the weight, but I guess if i'm going to be proven wrong Tommy would be the guy to do it.

This was my first thought, however it really is a close fight, but I'm not surprised to see many give the edge to Hearns, purely because he is the safer bet.

I feel the same way, and of course Tommy would be the one to stop Gavilan if he were to be stopped at 147 at all. Gav doesn't get rolled over by anyone at welterweight and poses a 50-50 to the greatest at the weight (except maybe Robinson)

I think Tommy is capable of beating any WW ever, including SRR and SRL

I was expecting you to pop up sooner or later :tong

Tommy had the tools to beat every WW there ever was, I don't think there's any denying that. I'd still favour SRR to stop him late, but Hearns is the man most likely to beat SRR at WW and is a top 3 H2H WW at the very least, Robinson being 1, with Hearns and Leonard at 2 and 3 in either order. Gavilan probably follows afterwards.

I agree with all of that, SRR would certainly be favoured against Hearns and rightly so. I haven't seen that much of Kid Gavilan, what kind of fighter was he?
