But he did end up out boxing Hearns .. sure he was behind on the cards, but Ray was always a better counter puncher than Tommy. Tommy had his chances but couldn't get the job done. Ray was very patient with Tommy and he started to close the distance and go to the body in the later rounds. He started to hit Tommy clean and hurt him. Tommy was in big trouble and the stoppage was a good one.

Can't agree on this one. He out fought Hearns. Flat footed, taking shots to get inside to punish Hearns to the body. Best example of the hunter becoming the hunted in boxing history.

Great observations. Duran also was completing his third straight fight in a 13 month period against 3 World Champions. Moore, Hagler than Hearns. All three were heavy favorites.
Hearns was younger, stronger, faster, more powerful, hungrier, in his prime and had no fear of Duran. Duran I believe was intimidated by Hearns. The stare down was a precursor.

Hearns and Benitez had some of the best stare downs I've ever seen.

Yes Duran fought Hearns at probably Hearns peak/ prime. Man it's funny how styles make fights. Every fight can always be a jaw shot away from KO!!!. If Hearns had a granite chin like Hagler's or even Duran's he might have been top ten all time great. His chin was very suspect.
