R.Duran 5'7" a natural lightweight/welter R.Jones 5'11" a natural super middle with cat like speed and power of a light heavy. If Hearns won, it wouldnt be because of the right hand, it would be because he boxed carefully, and keep Jones busy with that excellent left jab. Their is no comparison.
Don't like Hearns chances what so ever in this fight. Jones would do a number on him with size and skill, with some to spare
Jones and Duran are quite different but that doesn't mean that Jones's wouldn't suffer the same fate as Duran... although I do doubt it would be that easy for Hearns. Hearns is taller by 2 1/2" and has the longer reach by 4". Both men: are quick, have power, are accurate, are good at cutting the ring off and finishing a hurt fighter off, have good footwork, and are highly skilled. Hearns has the much better jab and is more technically sound. Jones was unorthodox but he was very good at making it work. Hearns was the bigger puncher but Jones punched hard too, I'd rate their chins pretty close. Speed? I'll give Jones the edge but Hearns was also very quick. I'll give Jones the edge in footwork as well, but Hearns could move well. Jones won World titles at MW, SMW, LHW, and HW. He also won the lightly regarded WBF World Title at CW which he currently holds. 4 or 5 weight division World Title Holder depending on how you want to look at it. He is still fighting at age 48. 65-9 (47) overall, he has been stopped 5 times. He beat a pre-peaked Hopkins W12 (Jones would get better too), Toney W12 (who struggled to make weight), McCallum W12 (who was way past prime), Montell Griffin KO1 (avenging a DQ defeat), Virgil Hill (who was way past prime and struggled to make weight), Lou Del Valle W12, Reggie Johnson (who was past prime), David Telesco W12, Eric Harding KO10, and John Ruiz W12 among others. Hearns won World Titles at WW, JMW, MW, SMW, and LHW. He also won the lightly regarded WBU and IBO CW World Titles. 5 or 6 weight division World Title Holder depending on how you want to look at it. He last fought at age 47, KO10 Shannon Landberg. 61-5-1 (48) overall, he was stopped 4 times. He beat Cuevas KO2, Wilfred Benitez W15, Roberto Duran KO2, Dennis Andries KO10, Juan Roldan KO4, James Kinchen W12, Michael Olajide W12, a prime Virgil Hill W12, Nate Miller W12, and others. He had a draw with Ray Leonard D12 that most felt he won, their first fight was won by Leonard KO13 but Hearns did very well in this fight and many feel it was stopped too soon. He lost a SD to Barkley but many felt Hearns won, Barkley stopped Hearns in their first fight. Hagler stopped Hearns in their fight, KO3, but it was a war and Hearns had suffered a broken right hand.
Do you care to name the weight at which this bout will occur? I would say that prime Jones beats Hearns at almost any weight but if we are talking about post-Ruiz Jones, then there are lots of problems for Roy.
IMO This is not how you determine who would win. You cant just compare resumees and attributes. You have to try and think how their styles would fit together in your mind's eye. you are also being biased with the way you are listing their resumees and there are several changes i would make there but i dont have the energy for that right now. But for starters roy also beat tate eric lucas(who was seen as a joke at the time but went on to become a champion) clinton woods(future champion) tarver lacy and julio gonzalez(future lineal champion, beat michaelchewski). Virgil hill and johnson were both still very good fighters at that point Also barkley CLEARLY won the hearns rematch. I also dont think that hearns hit harder at 160-175. p4p hearns at 47 and roy at 60 or 68 they were similar in power though. Roy at the peak of his powers was pretty much untouchable and 160 and over was not the best way for hearns. In 2001 when roy wasnt quite the same anymore, hearns has a good chance to beat roy
I know I am fossil; but Jones' chin against Hearns' right hand, there is only one result, from 154 to 190...
Let me tell you right now, I'm not a fan of Roy Jones and I love the Hitman. But Jones supposedly rehydrated to 180 when he beat Hopkins at MW. "While working for HBO as an analyst for Bernard Hopkins' title defense against Simon Brown, Jones would admit on air that he was 16 pounds heavier than Hopkins on fight night, weighing 180 to Hopkins 163." So Jones is likely coming in with a huge weight advantage, tremendous power against middleweight sized fighters, speed, and awkwardness. Hitman is an absolutle killer against smaller men. I think he beats Pac and Mayweather at Welter. But against Jones, nah, he's getting knocked out.
