Tommy Hearns vs Tommy Burns

I think Burns would stop Hearns late he had a great chin and big power plus I'm guessing this fight woul happen at 160 or so and Hearns didn't look as durable here as he did in th lower weights.

 

Burns had strength over Hearns, and ability to take punch. Hearns had more skills,and fought in advanced era. I would think Hearns could box him to a decison win. There is not much film shown of Burns, I don't even know if any exists besides his fight with Johnson.

It's a good topic, makes you think. I'm realizing how little anyone knows about Burns. Well, maybe I better speak for myself. :think


Was he much of a puncher, how did he train, and so on. I assume he took good shot.

 

Lots of film exist on Burns for fighters compare to other fighters of that era.

Have about 5 or so fight films starting Burns himself. Or was it 4??

I left with the thouht Burns would be to strong for Hearns imo.

 

Hearns would dispose of Burns, in the same fashion he disposed of Duran. IMO.

Hearns would be getting continually hammered to his body. Burns had more than enough firepower to take him out with a head shot (especially with that right hand bomb he was filmed flattening and upsetting Squires with in California), and would match the fast start of Hearns. Burns was also a 20 round veteran who could get off the deck to put an opponent out. He took 18 of 20 rounds over Marvin Hart, proving he could dominate a longer bout from beginning to end. He has a pair of championship round knockouts on his resume. This is key.

Nobody outboxed Hearns. But Burns dealt with Philadelphia Jack O'Brien twice in defense of his heavyweight title, somebody infinitely more experienced than Hearns. Still, Burns would likely be coming from behind here. Hearns would be the one in retreat here as the Burns body attack wore him down for a late round knockout. Burns could be very cool and relaxed in the ring (something he demonstrated when making Hart lose his composure and fight in a self-defeating rage), as well as extremely aggressive (the way he was in decisioning O'Brien). He was also sturdy enough to withstand whatever Hearns could dish out.
