Tommy Hearns Vs Tony zale?

"The Man of Steel" Tony Zale had one of the
most dangerous left hooks in the history of
the middleweight division.
And if he landed it cleanly on Hearns, theirs
an excellent chance he'd ko him.
But that would be a major "if", because other
that that left hook , he's seriously out gunned,
under-sized, and out skilled.
The results would be a duplicate of Hearns's
destruction of Roberto Duran.
Probably would take Hearns even less time
than it took for him against Duran, if that's possible.
Hearns by devastating early ko 9 out of 10 times.

 

We don't have any prime footage of Zale, right? That would certainly help. Tommy's record at 160 was all over the place. Tough but limited Dewitt took him the distance (you can't the Youngstown out of the boy)... Tough but limited Iran Barkley bulldozed him. Tough and unlimited Hagler got him into a firefight that didn't work out for Tommy. So, there is certainly room for Zale to do something. But one, well placed punch could end this early. I do wish I could see better footage of Zale.

Neatly laid out case for both to win, thanks, you are not wrong about Zales left hook, no less a fighter than Conn, along with Apostoli and Hostak, attested to the weight of Tonys hook, in particular to the body, but I agree the early rounds would be a minefield for Zale, but if he managed to keep upright, and competitive till the middle rounds, the fight would be in the balance, cannot see Hearns slender frame holding up to one of the best body punchers in history, it would be a dont blink fight for sure.

my heart says Zale can last, endure and maybe even overcome, but my mind says Hearns by KO.

again, a hard one to be clear on, because we somehow feel we shouldn't have any doubt,
but the Fab 4 were fit for any era, and Tommy then would have found himself mostly a L-HW with mixed results, but a Top one none the less, his, Tommy's vulnerabilities, could see Zale hammer out a good one, but ... I'd say Hearns many more times than not.

Who knows.

Boy, Tony has a bad habit of dropping both his left and right when coming in, even when he is just feinting with his right to land his left that chin is hung out like this morning's laundry. I know this is Tony late in his career but still, I can't see Hearns not capitalizing on this.

Flash, I see it exactly the same way that you do. A 154-160 pound Hearns would like decimate Zale. Of course, Hearns could be caught as he was with Barkley and, to a lesser extent, Roldan, but I just think he’d be too much for the Man of Steel.

 

Though a Hearns win is very plausible, and I think he's favored ,I'd have a hard time betting on Hearns. I can see him winning the fight picking Zale apart,,,just like he was doing to Barkley until,,,,,,,,,,

 

Reminds me of the time when Roldan dropped his hands when walking into the right that put him to sleep against Tommy. Roldan was no pushover either.

 

When you got a guy who with no right hand like Hearns, who is too skinny to hit, and a guy like Zale who doesn't know how to go to the body, you know it will be a flatly bad contest. Horrible thread, mods, delete, goodbye.
