Tommy Hearns vs. Winky Wright, at 154, both at their best, who wins?

Hearns jab would be the key in this fight. Winky never has seen a jab like Hearns and never will. Hearns would offset Winky with the jab and that will open up Winky to punches he rarely was hit with. Hearns wins a decision over Winky similar to how he beat Wilfred Benitez.

 

Hearns had a jab and more power than Winky usually saw. Remember Hearns stopped guys that Leonard and Hagler could not stop, and if they did he stopped them earlier. I think Hearns does to Winky what he did to Benitez, and the fight is not that tough for him. This is the kind of fight he does well with. He would beat him like he beat Virgil and Benitez. Hearns did well with great technical fighters. When he failed was when he fought guys who were aggressive and took a chance to be hit with the right to get their punches threw. But that is a tall order and Winky would not do it.

 

Im not the world's biggest pro-Hearns' ability poster to say the least. But he was better than Winky Wright and would have beaten him because of that.

It's a great matchup for Hearns.

Has a good enough jab, and obvisouly enough pop to keep winky at by and let Hearns control the fight.

i think hearns wins a decision , williams gave the blueprint and i really think neither man could stop the other.

 

Winky's main offence is the jab but I don't see it being all that effective against Hearns who is IMO at his best when boxing at range. I think Hearns would box to a comfortable UD and wouldn't be surprised if at some point he landed something big to stop Winky.

 

Tommy fights **** all like Williams, the only similarity is they're tall and have long reach.

 

Even though this looks funny in retrospect I do believe the Winky that showed up against Williams was still pretty good and one of the better middleweights of the time, that far past his prime and pretty much a career light middleweight. I think he'd have had a good chance taking Sturm's sliver that night.
