Tommy Hearns vs. Winky Wright, at 154, both at their best, who wins?

:rofl:rofl:rofl "no where near their caliber" he absolutely is near their level. Style wise he isnt like them but at his best Winky is a very hard fight for anyone in history at 154.


I think Hearns could do well with his jab and speed and staying on the outside but I dont think Hearns knocks him out cause Winky's defense is good and his chin is good too.

Winky is a tough fighter and would make Hearns work. Hearns is just a better fighter with supreme power. In a 12 round bout, i'd give it to Hearns. If it were 15, then I don't know, because Winky has great stamina, and he would make Tommy very uncomfortable with the pressure and constant punches he throws.

 

Agreed:good Winky has always been underated IMO & shocked more than a few in his career, great defence/chin but dos'nt have the defensive or countering nous of Benitez who as we now came 2nd to Hearns. For Winky to win this he'd have to come out of his shell a bit more than he'd like too & that would leave him more than a little suspect to the Hearns bombs. Tough fight for both but Hearns U/D all night long.

 

You can't win a fight on defense alone, which is obviously winkys strong point. He has a pretty fair offense but it's nothing to be compared to Hearns. The hitman may not have gotten the ko but he'd certainly win a wide decision based on punch volume.

 

I perhaps was a bit harsh on Winky back then.

But I still stand firm that Ron isnt the calibre of those fighters...not "absolutely near". Thats deserves a :rofl more then what I said.

There are plenty of guys that are hard fights at 154 throughout its history. This is whats get me about Wright, there is quite a few people that are on his level or even better that get totally forgotten about. Then it looks like there is the cream of the crop at 154, followed closely by Winky. Which is not true because he shares that tier with several fighters.

Hearns beats him 99 times out of 100.

 

Gil Turner vs Hearns???At welter or junior middle? Good fight whilst it lasts but I think Hearns gets rid of the Phillie toughie in about 7. Turner could win a workrate UD over Winky, he fared well with good middleweights weighing in a light middle.

It's so hard to outpoint Hearns, and I don't see Winky knocking him out. I favour Tommy in this matchup.
