Tommy Hearns would have schooled Roy Jones Jr.

RJJ makes Hearns look slow while he lands combinations to Tommy's chin.
If Hagler, who had slower hands than RJJ, could land hard punches on Hearns,
then it stands to reason RJJ has an easier time of it. Roy would, of course, have
to be wary of Hearns right hand, but he'd figure it out within 3-4 rounds and end it
in the 8th to 10th rounds.

It wouldn't be a good night for Tommy; he gets KTFO.

Its just my opinion. One of millions. But Jones never exhibited that mentality to go for broke. As many fights I saw of his, he was never willing to take that risk to go all out even against very weak opposition He preferred to take his time, use his superior athletic ability and reflexes and wait for that opening. He was never one to create that opening by aggressiveness. Sorry, I don't see him all of a sudden change who he is because he's facing a T.Hearns. In fact, I see him becoming even more cautious. Allowing Hearns to win the fight off that long left jab. Hearns would never be able to land the right hand solidly. But he would be able to control the fight because Jones jr would allow it. Waiting for that perfect shot, Jones would allow Hearns to win the fight because he wouldn't be willing to commit to doing what R.Leonard or M.Hagler did. Walk through the fire. He never showed that he would be willing to do that. Not counting the midget he knocked out in the 2nd fight that he lost too because of a DQ in the 1st . He knew that fighter wasn't a threat. In a 12 rd fight I see Hearns winning. But the fight itself would be very boring.

Compare and contrast this for a minute...

Jones, Jr. beat Toney by scores of 119–108, 118–109, and 117–108. He damn near whitewashed an all-time great who was in his physical prime.

Hearns got caught and finished by Blade Barkley.

Who cares? Pacquiao whitewashed ATG Barrera in his prime worse than Jones whitewashed Toney. But guess what styles make fights and Pac lost to Morales.

Hearns has enough power to shut off Jones lights with a single punch. His reach is 80 inches. His skill is exceptional. And Roy Jones is not a classically trained proficient boxer. Tommy schools him.

You are talking about a 168lbs RJJ, the thread is about 160. Roy was immensely talented but greener and not at his peak weight at 160. I'd still take him against many an ATG, but he's stronger at 168.

No-one got to Jones first at 160, but his resume there is pretty thin. It's an open book whether an ATG with Hearns skill and handspeed would have got in on him or not.

Hearns height, reach, speed and power present an enormous challenge for Roy.

And Hearn's couldn't? He had immense P4P power and great reach. I think this is a very well matched fight to be honest.

Actually I remember Hearns calling out Jones in the latter part of his career. Back then, Hearns was briefly considered as a potential opponent for Roy.

The Toney fight was Jones first fight at the new weight, a weight where Toney had just destroyed longtime champ Williams with a highlight KO. But if we are going to play your game and throw out that fight out the window, here is what we have at 160..

Jones beat Hopkins and Castro (two future champs and one ATG), along with a lesser lights in Wolfe.

Hearns got KO'd twice and his best victories were over DeWitt and Schuler.

I think the exact opposite .

Hearns gets manhandled and taken out in 7 rnds by Roys Excellent Hooks .

Tommy Hearns could have switched off RJJ's lights.

But I wouldn't bet on it.

Jones was rehydrating to 180 as a MW. There is really no difference between MW Jones and LHW Jones in the ring. He would have 20 pounds on Hearns. I don't know, I like Hearns as an absolute monster at welter but this is a tall order.

Jones isn't Virgil Hill, he can really load up on his punches and put Hearns to sleep.
