Come on now the low blows had a huge factor how could they not? i wasnt speaking about what Shuler could do it was all about the transformation of Tommy's body for that fight, and its certainly not liked Hagler looked good that night he was very lucky he didnt get laid out like a rug by Mugabi...he clearly wasnt the same after he fought Hearns, but who was....

Guess we'll just have to agree to disagree. I think you're rather misunderstanding what was happening there, but that's cool.

I don`t see Hearns ever beating Hagler... As much as I love Hearns,Hagler had an anvil for a chin. And Hagler would always walk him down eventually and grind him to a stoppage. Hearns could be hurt to the body(,not just chin) SRL Showed that as did Hagler. That was an awesome performance against Black Gold though ! Shuler was top ranked at the time and had been very impressive climbing the ladder. To me that was vintage `Hitman` ! And, if Hearns was fighting in the current 147-154. He would utterly dominate. Gotta love how some Floyd people actually think he,d have a shot with Hearns...`78` wingspan, faster much better jab and YES the ability to outbox Floyd using his tools. Plus,if Mayweather and Maidana hurt Floyd. Hitman puts him to sleep !!

A couple interesting takes I've read here on Shuler............I was never real impressed with him. He was forced to go the distance with a completely (and I mean completely) shot Ray Seales to win the NABF title (I think that was the one) and barely squeaked by with a very close decision after getting rocked late by Kinchen in a very boring match a few years later. He was very inactive at the time, and seemed to want to sit on that #1 ranking, but those were the only two real high profile fights he ever had, aside from getting blitzed in one round by Hearns, of course.

Barkley could bang though.....and Hearns did fight him in the latter stages of his career. Tommy was by far the better fighter of the two...

Never in a million years does Tommy stop Marvin.

I think maybe 1 out of 5 times he beats Marvin. Has the ability to outbox or stop him on cuts as a solid middle and with a healthy right hand.Remember he was knocking out fighters in higher weight divisions, could Marvin do that? Could he drop Leonard or Duran? Remember though,I said 1 out of 5. Hagler's style and chin are a nightmare for Hearns (maybe?).

If they were to box 5 times I would not bet against Hearns beating or stopping Hagler at least once. Hagler arguably the best middleweight of all time along with Robinson, Greb, Ketchel, Monzon etc. No shame as Tommy was best at welterweight/ light middle.

Remember the original post was if Tommy had a solid chin how good would he have been......an iron chin Tommy just about beats everyone.

He made a LOT of money fighting that way. Knockouts sell and Tommy almost always went for the knockout.

I think Spinks is greater pound-for-pound.

I don't think many would agree with you but you are entitled to your opinion, Spinks was a top fighter. Why do you rate him higher?
