Tommy Loughran : Does anyone rate him down for "drawing the color line" ?

Tiger Flowers totally qualifies as a ducked opponent for Tommy.

 

Well, he fought about every top lhw of his time. If there would be serious black contenders that he avoided it could be hold against him but as far as I know there were none. Correct me if I´m wrong.

Well, was that a fight that was talked about? Was Flowers next in line or were other guys ahead of him?

 

I think totally is a bit strong, their careers overlapped, but Flowers was banged out by Norfolk in 1 rd for the coloured version of the LH crown ,he would hardly be feared by Loughran.

I would have no prob whatsoever betting my stack on 1924 Flowers over T.L.

No he couldnt, and Norfolk couldn't box like Tommy.
If your abbreviation means Flowers was prime in 24.I would say Loughran really hit his stride between the end of 25 and the end of 29,Tommy had 38 fights without defeat in that 4 year period ,beating Lomski , Walker, and Mctigue who beat Flowers and drawing with Delaney ,who twice kod Flowers inside 4 rds.
I would take your money if the fight could be arranged Loughran was better than Flowers. imo.

 

Flowers was tough to beat if you couldn't punch him out. I think it would have certainly been a very good name on Loughran's record. However I think the fight we really missed out on was Loughran vs Delaney around 1926-1927.
