I think Loughran is a level above Tarver but Tarvers size poses problems. Im going with Loughran on SD. Thoughts?

I'll go with Loughran via an obvious decision that's on the closer side. Tarver's skills make it competitive but Loughran was a level above and he had the beard to take it, going off his fights with Baer and Braddock. He also seemed to handle hardpunching heavyweight southpaw Jack Gross well.

And to answer the question above (though not directed at me) I thought Loughran looked very impressive against Braddock

Loughran outboxes Tarver all the way...out jabs and out smarts Tarver all the way,

As do I! I just have doubts as to whether the OP has seen any of the fighters in his h2h threads. I am curious whether this is a legit question or just another time waster

Loughran, to me...is the ultimate Classic Boxer...one of the great defensive whizzes...like my boxing idols Locche, Giardello, Pastrano, Johnson, Archer, Pep and Graham, to name but a few...
Loughran's bouts vs Braddock, Walker, Sharkey, are classics...and I wish someone would have filmed Loughran-Baer, as well as all the other bouts that we don't have of Tommy's.
Well, it's in the spirit of this post that I'd like to post this...

Tarver matched up better against boxers than he did against more aggressive fighters. Loughran was a brilliant boxer performed well against heavyweights, but a skilled southpaw with a pronounced size advantage, and who was exceptional at setting traps wouldn't be an easy out.

If Loughran wins, it's similar to the Lomski fight where he has to climb off the canvas a couple of times to win.

I would agree with most of this, not sure about getting off the canvas a “couple” of times, but I guess that is plausible.
I would pick Loughran (and not just because of the Philly connection), but do agree the size/reach/height and southpaw stance present some good dynamics. Perhaps I am not that big on Tarver as well, make me overconfident in picking him because I do think it would be very close over 12 and to difficult to gauge how Tarver might adapt in a 15 round era rule set. Over 12 I would take Tommy very close..over 15 my confidence level rises, but again Tarver cannot be accurately measured on the rule set, for me.

I'll be honest I have done that a few times. For example in the thread yesterday I've never seen Dundee fight but he was rated higher then Sanchez. I usually look up the top 10 lists of each divison then ask from there. However I am familiar with Loughran and Tarver more so.
