Exact example why back in the days, when the Real Lightheavy champ, faced the Real MW Champ, the Lthvy Champion champ won. (Not like today with multple ABC's pony-ing up unqualifed "Champs" receiving orchestrated title victories.)

1929-03-28 : Mickey Walker 165 lbs lost to Tommy Loughran 173ΒΌ lbs by SD in round 10 of 10
    World Light Heavyweight Title

"Tommy Loughran, the Philadelphia Irishman easily retained his light heavyweight crown last night by repulsing the pug-nosed, heavy-firing middleweight champion Mickey Walker, over the 10 round route in the new $7,000,000 Chicago Stadium. Loughran obtained the verdict of the two judges, Eddie Klein and Phil Collins. The referee, Davey Miller, cast his ballot for the challenger. Loughran won because he was a superb boxer. He waged a running, jabbing fight and belted Walker with resounding smacks whenever the New Jersey bulldog made his characteristic, two-fisted rush. Walker had but one chance last night. That was in the 5th round when he nailed the champion with a terrific right cross to the jaw. Sensing victory, the bulldog rushed, aiming his fists at the same spot. But Loughran tied him up each time, shook the cobwebs and stalled the round out. It was the only exciting round of the match and from that time on, the tide turned steadily to the champion." -Associated Press

Under the terms of the contract signed by Loughran, he received 55% or app. $67,000. Out of this figure he was required to pay Walker $50,000 and $13,000 to Leo Lomski and Tuffy Griffith who fought a 10 rounder on the undercard. This left Loughran and his manager with only $4,000, which also had to pay their expenses.

    • Attendance: "over" 20,000

Yes he did. He beat both Max and Braddock, which I think is pretty significant.
