I see you still don't have the brain power to formulate any actual defence as ever - and yes rascist against whites - most whites I come across these days are - generally brain washed just like you sound - its an argument I here pretty regularly from non fight fans all the time - "he must be crap...he's white" most young people these all they've ever seen is most fighters they see are black so they must be the toughest - whites don't stand a chance against them - I heard people expressing surprise when they've seen a decent white sprinter - because all they've ever seen is black sprinters - people are pre conditioned to view white atheletes and fighters as a bit weak in general - you just come across as one of those 'simpletons' who can't see beyond the end of their nose - if you find it offenssive then explain yourself rather than just winge on about how could anyone think a white fighter is great unless they are rascist

Someone has mentioned this book before. I haven't had time to read it yet, and I'm curious to see if its conclusions have held up in the 10+ years that have passed since its publication (and the intervening globalization of sport). With that being said, it's very difficult to prise apart biology versus sociocultural stuff.

To demonstrate my point: are people of pre-Potato Famine Irish descent genetically better athletes than people of other European ancestries?

boxing has been a little different though (in america at least) per generation the best fighters have simply rose in parralel with whichever ethnic group was beginning to rise from the ghetto at that particular time - ie early 1900's saw a great deal of Irish americans greats and also black americans coming off the back of slavery, the late 20's and the 30's you had a tremendous amount of jewish deccent fighters hitting the bigtime, the 50's you had a tremendous amount of italian americans making it big, we've had periods where the sport was saturated with many many mexican fighters, currently it's dominated by former eastern bloc fighters - it's just lazy and stupid just to say oh he's white so he's **** or to ridicule someone on the grounds that they happen to like a white fighter?? who's the best heavyweight in the world right now?? come on everyone make sure that dickfaceboypigman gets the message on this - surely there's got to be some of you out there with your heads screwed on right??

Despite the obvious trolling, you brought an interesting book to the attention of the forum (however accidentally). It's been floating around for a while now on this forum, but few people refer to it explicitly unless pressed. Kudos.

The evidence is almost as compelling for Irish-American sports superiority between about 1870 and 1930 as it is for African-American athletes from 1930 until the late 90's. (Of course, since the color line existed during the 1870-1930 period, Irish-Americans could only claim superiority over other people of European descent).

Throughout this period, Irish-Americans out-competed opponents (especially Anglo-American opponents) despite inferior nutrition, smaller numbers, lower social status, and limited funding. Before the Olympics, Irish and Irish-American amateur athletes beat their English and Anglo-American competition in most "all around" events. When the Olympics got rolling, Irish-American athletes dominated a disproportionate share of the events. Not to mention boxing, where four* of the first ten heavyweight champions had Irish ancestry.

If you protest that Ireland doesn't produce amazing athletes today, I could easily retort that Irish-American athletic superiority came from the group of people who left Ireland in the latter half of the 19th century. A huge proportion of the able-bodied population left for America, which must have altered Ireland's gene pool somewhat.


...Naturally, this is all ridiculous, but it's just as superficially plausible as the genetic arguments that other people make.
