Genuinely think he's only really noteworthy due to the Rocky films. He didn't really do anything else to distinguish himself.
This, guy clearly had a ton of talent. Unfortunately though, elite power/speed usually equals poor stamina and an abandonment of other skills. Under the right trainers, he probably could’ve been morphed into one of those smarter, low output punchers that focus mainly on shot selection instead of being the frontrunner that he was. Disappointing to see talented guys with fun styles drain their prime with partying and skanks. I don’t even think the guy ever had a proper camp tbh. I remember reading a lot about him a few years backs and the people around him claimed that he was never one to like training.
Exciting fighter who could box much better than many believe but simply fell in love with the fight, the power, the buzz. I'd watch a Morrison fight over most others, I think the criticism he gets is grossly unfair. Never ducked a fight to my knowledge. Could he have done more? Of course. But he did more than most will ever achieve. RIP Tommy.
Exactly a ton of a talent Amazing left hook, power and skills. But you cannot **** hundreds or thousands and women and be a dedicated elite boxer One of the biggest loss of talent at heavyweight
You're too new here to be correcting me. It was proven in a court case that he knew about it since the start of his career. Ironically enough, this was shown in a frivolous court case that his widow initiated in order to prove that he didn't have HIV, if I remember right. I posted the court case and the thread got deleted after the widow threatened to sue me and I assume the forum. The documents should be easy to find on Google.
I've noticed the modern boxing community has a unhealthy relationship with Tommy Morrison, in both the exposure he gets from fans as some holy cow of entertainment (Courage Tshabalala was too for a hot minute, so what?) and his actual abilities as a fighter, which were very limited if you're willing to take an honest look at his career. Literally, ****ing Jerry Jones (who?) showed about 10 times the ability of Morrison against Mercer... and yet here we are talking about Morrison literally every few days for more or less the entire lifetime of these boards. This content is protected What else is there to say about him, seriously?
Stewart (who was on the backfoot for the majority of every round against Foreman and "lost" his mouthpiece three times) lost to Foreman by a point, Morrison beat him by seven. Morrison beat him over 12, rather than losing over 10. Morrison stayed on his feet, Stewart was knocked down multiple times. Morrison’s performance was clearly far superior and his next three best wins were better than any of Stewart's. Would Frazier or Norton have beaten even that version of Foreman? If Stewart’s performance was more impressive for getting off the deck and going the distance, Morrison should get more credit for the Puritty fight, as well as Williams and Ruddock where he got off the deck to win.
Tommy was a glass cannon therefore an entertaining fighter. His personal life often times took from his fighting quality as he lived as a rock star which ended his life in the end. The one time he took boxing seriously and had no distractions,he displayed that had he took it seriously for consistent period of times-the Foreman fight-he would have gone maybe much further.
People **** on Morrison but the guy was rarely in a boring fight he either shattered someones Chin or got his shattered. The guy could actually fight he just had a ten cent brain and didn't take training camp as serious as he should. I have zero doubt a Prime Morrison would absolutely obliterate someone like Wilder and maybe even Joshua as well. He'd certainly test their Glass Jaws early.
Tommy was a lot of fun to watch. For that and the era he was in he gets overated, but he wouldnt have done much better in any other era. People will say rubbish like he would KO AJ but there is no top 10 fighter today who would get blown out by Bentt. Morrison was Dillian Whyte level imo.
