Sonny , we got it , you hate Morrison................have yopu screamed into Tic Toc yet ? You are still sore that he took your girl friend for a one night stand and dropped her after the fact, get over it, you have been dumped a hundred times since then.
One of my quotes from the thread justifying his top 10 status: "Morrison's top 10 contemporaries included Garcia, Jackson, Hunter, Gonzales, Butler, Hide, Seldon, Akinwande, Bentt and Zolkin." To go further I think these fighters being above 1993 Morrison (UD'd Foreman and KO'd Williams, KO'd by Mercer and Bentt) are questionable: Tucker (UD'd by Lewis and Tyson, SD's over Norris and McCall, KO'd Douglas) Sanders (best win an early career losing streak Nelson by UD?) Bruno (KO'd by Lewis, Witherspoon and Smith, best win may be a later KO over a more faded version of Williams) Akinwande (1-0-1 with Schulz) McCall (lost to Christjohn, Hunter, Douglas, Norris, Tucker, KO'd Damiani and Seldon) Hunter (best win SD over Zolkin, lost to Botha, Andre Smith, Billups, drew with James Pritchard and Woody Clarke) Moorer (KO'd Stewart and Cooper in wars) While it's inherently subjective I don't think any skulduggery was required for Morrison to be top 10 ranked over a few years.
With hindsight the argument for him being top 10 ability-wise falls apart. The guys rated above him have better wins and better overall careers. I'd take Bruno and Tucker's win over McCall over any Morrison win, same with McCall over Lewis and Moorer over Holyfield. Tucker also has the Douglas win and did far better vs Lewis than Morrison. Akinwande has wins over Norris and Zolkin as well and I might favor Schulz to beat Morrison. What's the case for even rating Morrison ahead of Seldon and David Izon?
So what? Doubt it would affect the fights outcome one bit. Tyson might take him out in the first round. Seldon taking a dive against someone who would beat Morrison anyway doesn't help Morrison's case.
OK man, agree to disagree. Personally, I think Morrison would have beaten Seldon and to call Morrison a fraud in comparison to him seems disingenuous at best, but each to their own. Have a wonderful day, gbn x
Its possible but all Seldon's prime losses (McCall, Tubbs, Bowe, and Tyson) are to guys I'd favor over Morrison and he never lost to someone like Bentt. Seldon had an easier time with Hipp than Morrison who got his jaw broken and was barely ahead on the scorecards. His win over a faded Tucker and Page are similar to Morrisons over faded versions of Williams and Ruddock but again Seldon won without suffering multiple knockdowns. Ultimately they had similar careers and should be ranked at roughly the same level
It's really intersting and I've made this point about Morrison, and other fighters before, in hth comparisons we are almost talking about unicorn performances, sometimes one we've never seen by the fighter, it's lije a 'best of' album, all killer, no filler. I'd argue that the Morrison who fought Mercer and was brutally stopped by him would likely have knocked out most of his contemporaries, he looked incredible until he got stopped...Mercer had a head like a church bell, you could ring it all night and it still keeps going...The Morrison who 'ran away from' Foreman actually showed solid boxing skills, good stamina, a decent jab and stuck to a plan against a dangerous heavy handed fighter whoosh thought would stop him. If we look at Tommy's frailties, ie his chin, it leads to another of his strong points, his heart. Yeah he got knocked down, knocked out, but a fighter with a bad chin lining up to fight Ruddock, Mercer, Lewis, Foreman...kid never ducked anyone. I think he'd have folded Seldon. As for Izon? He was beaten by Mo Harris...is that his Bent? Tua would have beaten Morrison and Seldon, but Grant and Savarese? I'd take peak, focussed Morrison, a rare sighting I grant you, to beat both of them. He'd poleaxe Grant in my opinion.
Absolutely top tier left hook, very fun to watch - one of my favourites for entertainment value Good wins against Ruddock, Foreman, Mid tier wins vs Carl Williams, Pinklon Thomas, Hipp Fun glass cannon, waste of talent. I would have loved a motivated Morrison who got some good fights with the likes of Tua, Briggs etc Doesn't deserve all the hate he gets
Morrison was destined to gas out against Mercer (or whatever fantasy fighter). He was a nervous wreck.
Looked brilliant for three, Mercer ate some punches, but boy the finish. I was delighted, Mercer was my guy, but Tommy was nae mug. I don't get the hate and the dismissiveness.
