Totally agree, I remember when Tommy came to Knoxville to work with trainer Ace Miller on his defense. The word was the only thing Morrison worked on was prostitutes. Being in that Rocky movie really hurt his boxing .Frankie Randall was drugging it up a couple of weeks before an ESPN fight and got starched in 2 rounds by Pablo Ramos. The same Frankie that walked through everything Julio Chavez threw at him., later he said I simply wasn't ready. I'd say Tommy had at least a C+ chin , could have been better with focused preparation. A trained and conditioned fighter might go down or get hurt, but he can recover much quicker.
Morrison was very mentally tough as shown in the Williams and Hipp fights. His punch resistance was really bad though.
I mean it's all relative but im struggling to think of beltholder hw who I'd say had a worse chin than Morrison...
A bit of necro post. I truly believe George Foreman let Tommy win. I thought Foreman let back on his punches but enough to hurt some and look good. George always spoke well of Tommy to the point of having me think he was told to by the people involved in the business to promote the great white hope of heavy weight boxing. When Tommy got nailed and knocked out by I believe it was Bennt? the warm up fight before a big payday possibly with Tyson, at post fight chat George just kept repeating just look out how easy he hurt Bennt at first where Bennt got hit and then kinda swung wildly trying to recover which he did as that wild swing knocked Tommy out. Sad he was so out of shape that a hay maker dropped him. Tommy did not train and thought it would be a easy win. He rarely trained hard and it was like everyone said because partying and girls came first. Come on they said he had at least 2 girls a night and was also a woman beater. Yup the movie Rocky V wrecked his career to a point. I always thought he had a weakness in the chin department but iv'e also seen him take some great shots. Those of you who box or train can training hard before a fight give you a better chin? I mean to a point. I would think from alot of cardio and stamina the brain would have more oxygen to recover faster? Tommy could of had it all for a short time but chose not to.. Shame RIP.
stfu noob. He had one of the most infamous heavyweight glass jaws of all time. How Foreman failed to drop that idiot to his knees over 12 rounds is one of the great mysteries of boxing.
I don't think Morrison has a glass chin compared to some that truly deserve the name. Rather he had a couple of flaws that contributed to his knockout losses: - poor stamina and too much nervous tension at times - overly aggressive style that often left his chin right in the firing line - tendency not to prepare properly for fights or show up to fights compromised His chin was on the level of a Wlad or Norton. Not truly horrible but not good enough to fight with reckless abandon, which Morrison did at times.
But that left hook was!! So was his heart. The fight where Morrison buckled down and trained his best was the Foreman fight. And it showed. THAT Foreman was better than Mercer and Bent and we saw what he did to Moorer a year later. Yeah Tommy’s chin wasn’t iron and his dedication wasn’t the best most of the time, but he was fun to watch!! That can’t be argued with.
This. And this was proven with multiple fighter. One of late is Dillian Whyte. Going into AJ fight i would say he had very solid punch resistance/chin. But it was all taken from him that night, after the huge beating he took. And when a fighter is KO that brutally, that is a recipe for disaster.
