Back up until last February / March, I used to be in contact with Tommy, we talked at least once per week. Many others have the same story, as Tommy loved interacting with the fans and he genuinely enjoyed the email exchanges. All of a sudden we heard of the arrest and then things went silent. I agree with others who say that Tommy probably is still alive, but it is the end of public appearances, youtube videos, etc... Consider that people can be kept along far beyond natural means, and sadly Duke may live a very, very long time, all the while he may not be able to move / speak anymore. The only thing I don't understand is why Tommy's wife would be trying to hide him / keep him from the world. I suspect that his HIV turned to full-blown AIDS at some point over the last year, hence why Tom is very very sick. Are they worried about a possible lawsuit if it comes out Tommy has AIDS? The three fighters he fought in his comeback are all reportedly healthy and still fighting, so I don't think that would happen. Many fans would see Tommy's failing condition and bend over backwards to send donations, set up an indiegogo fundraiser, etc, if they would just be told the truth. I know sick people are entitled to their privacy but with the reports of Tommy having no savings or property, and their only income being his disability check (read from a news article 2 years ago), you would think she would turn to the boxing community for help instead of just watch him die slowly. Anybody who knows medicine - If Tommy has AIDS today, could anything be done if he got back on medicine, etc....or is it already too late?
I liked Morrison,a real hardcase.I always remember the barrage he took from Mercer,AND STILL GOT UP!!
Tommy's situation reminds of Queen's late lead singer, Freddy Mercury, who died of AIDS. In his last days, all of his band mates said that he was fine, knowing full well that Freddy was dying. Why? Because they didn't want the paparazzi to hound their friend, and spread rumors. I don't blame the members of Queen for doing so. No body knows what's going on with Tommy, but if he is dying, whether it's due to AIDS or not, his loved ones may very well be trying to protect his privacy. I would respect that decision.
Not only for his privacy, but I'd imagine it would be sort of embarrassing for him to go public with something he has been adamantly denying. Actually, adamantly is probably not a strong enough word for it...
I agree. He's made himself an easy target for ridicule with his drug arrests, fake pecs, fake fights, and denying that AIDS exists. I've had more than a few laughs at his expense. I don't think he'd want any more negative attention, although if he's dying, I'm sure most would have sympathy for him.
*****statement from Trisha Morrison******* I recieved the information below from Trisha yesterday. I will update with more in due course. "Duke is on the road to recovery after being diagnosed with miller fisher syndrome/guillain barre syndrome (Google it!) Odds of getting this are one in a million....wishing you a great 2013..and looking forward to a better here ahead." I spoke with trisha briefly and there will be more information shortly
Oh come on....that may have been her statement, not doubting that. But that statement itself is PURE B.S. (that's Boloney Sandwich for the young ones).
No life insurance because they won't let you have one when you got hiv. If he died she's probably hiding the death to keep receiving the disability checks, don't blame her honestly. Tommy was an exciting man to watch.
You wouldn't blame her for committing fraud, and I'm sure other criminal acts, like hiding a dead body. :huh
The story certainly has its talking points. Maybe we will never know the whole truth. As soon as i hear any more news ill post it here
