If this fight had actually taken place in around 1995, Schultz had failed to beat Foreman for the IBF belt so he goes up against the Duke? 12 rounds?
It's possible, Tommy could dig, he wasn't far off KOing Ruddock here. The only thing is, is that Schultz seemed to have a fairly decent chin and boxing talent. If he could avoid getting smacked by Tommy, imo, he could have the Duke in jeopardy.
I think Shultz is one of the more underrated and unluckiest heavyweights of the 90's. I thought he should have got the decision's against Foreman and Botha. He was very competitive against Moorer as well. Sure Tommy could crack but Shultz was very durable as he proved agaisnt the punchers I mentioned before and very skilled. I see him winning by UD. He was only stopped once and that was late in his career against Klitschko.
Schulz stops the 1995 Tommy late. Tommy’s disease I think was taking hold, or his training was really lacking by this time. He looked very past prime in the Lewis bout. He was heavy and his stamina was bad even by his standards. Schulz would lose early rounds but I think he picks Tommy off by the 9th
He was unlucky wasn't he! The Foreman fight should have been his,and George s shots just seemed to bounce off of Schultz s jaw. Underrated guy for that time frame, if he'd been American or UK.. Maybe he'd have had better luck.
I'm actually watching the Shultz vs Foreman fight right now for the first time since I watched it live on HBO. Unbelievably bad decision. He should ha e been the leniel heavyweight champion of the world.
That Joe Hipp vs Morrison was a particularly grueling fight. I remember watching that live and thinking Hipp was really close to wearing Tommy out when all of sudden he got caught by him. Joe Hipp was a tough dude. Both guys took a lot of damage in that one.
I last watched it a few years ago, remember thinking exactly the same. Foreman got a few of these dodgy decisions in his comeback tbh
