90's Great White Hope V 80's Great White Hope

I fancy Morrison if he can avoid early bombs from cooney. He could actually win it on points like he did foreman

Morrison had better hand speed and a two-fisted approach compared to the left hooking Cooney. However, Morrison usually stunk against tall dude's... Me thinks a pawing jab Cooney who hooks to the body and chin, prolly nails Morrison first with a big left hook shot... I'm talking '82 Cooney against '93 Morrison...... Both owned shaky chins.....

War of the of the left hand bombs! IMO Cooney drops Morrison by round 5 for the win.

Depends on which Morrison turns up. The morrison of foreman fight would school cooney but that was a one night wonder. he was normally crash bang wallop

    See Cooney vs Ken Norton
    See Morrison vs Ray Mercer

    There's the answer.

    Exactly,

and frankly I think a lot of people overrate that performance as there was actually a lot of running around, and against a version of Foreman who was quite a bit slower and differed in style to a prime Cooney.. Both men were fast starters by nature and preferred to get the job done early.. I'm also not so sure that Tommy would "school" Cooney even in the unlikely event that he opted to box rather than slug... Gerry had a long wingspan, good left jab and underrated footwork.. He didn't always fight like he did in the Norton and Lyle bouts.. in fact I think his skills were better and may even have had a slight edge in power... Although a Morrison onslaught could have dropped him, Tommy's chin and defense were terrible and even aging foes like Williams or mediocrities like Purity and Bentt had their moments against him... I have to go with Gerry by an early round KO...

Pretty much. I see a repeat of Mercer/Morrison.

Like I've said before both men knock each other out double left hook simultaneous ko.
seriously this fight is fifty fifty. I would give the edge to cooney and I believe his hook
Was more powerful and he had more balls. A past prime cooney hurt big George in
the first with his hook, and as someone remarked moorison was hesitant to throw it.
however Morrison is quite capable of finishing cooney. Cooney proved himself
against better opposition. Cooney KO in 4 after getting dropped himself

Cooney would have destroyed Morrison in the early rounds, and utterly so. This is a fight between two big bombers with weak chins. Whichever guy landed first would win. Cooney, with his superior height, reach, and battering ram left jab, would be the first to land, and get the KO.

Sure, if Tommy lands his hook it would be lights out for Cooney. But I see Cooney aggressively using his left jab to control this fight from the outset. Morrison would get jarred quickly, and within an instant, Cooney would follow his jabs with left hooks and uppercuts to close the show.

The best I could see Tommy doing is to box well and minimize punishment, but even then he gets clocked by a left hook by the fourth or fifth round. In this scenario, Tommy's defensive boxing prevents him from taking chances and winging bombs at Cooney.

I assume we're talking each "White Hope" at his peak, here.
