John Tate is remembered for his one punch ko title loss to Mike Weaver. However Tate had accomplished skills and power and was ahead on pts and one minute from retaining his title in a 15 rd fight. Tate schools Morrison and stops a battered and tiring Morrison in 8 rds.
If Tate is at his best then he beats Morrison. Tommy' try s to take him out early but Tate was tougher than that .A one eyed Morrison is stopped mid way through the fight.
Tougher than that? Morrison did hit way harder than weaver and berbick.. So an early stoppage win for morrison would not be a rare thing.tate is overrated.i can't see berbick beating or even surviving to morrison
All Tate. He'll box his ears off and when Tommy lets the fatigue factor set in, he sure won't be avoiding punches. tko between 8 and 12
So what is the excuse for his ko defeat against berbick?. It is all fantasy i don't buy your post at all. Tate would not school morrison.tommy was better than tate and would knock him out. I can't see tate doing any better than ruddock
John Tate was never the same after his heart breaking loss to Mike Weaver. Like Jeff Fenech was after being ko by Azumah Nelson. Next fight the usual sturdy chin Fenech was ko by light hitting Calvin Grove. Prime John Tate had victories over heavy hitters Bernado Mercado , Kallie Knoetze and Gerrie Coetzee. If John Tate had lasted that final minute a match up Larry Holmes would have been competitive.
Tate was a talented and capable big heavyweight with a great pedigree his fight with Weaver is unfortunately what most remember of big John but rewatching the fight he is an impressive fighter had he stayed with Ace Miller he would have come back but his demons got him.....the take away of that fight is Weaver could crack with that hook and keep your hands high to the last second...Tate had looked great it was a helluva a fight for 15 rounds or damn near 15 rds....Weaver is severely underrated he was in the mold of Jersey Joe Walcott in how slow his career started where he was over-matched early making his record look worse than he actually was a look at it shows a lot of experience packed into those early fights and sparring gigs. Morrison was a bigger harder puncher than Weaver but he isn't going 15 rds to do it and he can't outbox Tate.....I do see him stopping him in 10rds Berbick did it I would think the bigger harder punching Morrison could catch him as well. Not taking anything from Tate it is the matchup
If the fight is in "Mi-am-a, Okie-homa", then Tommy k.o.s Tate in 5, and leaves with a "cowgirl" on each arm to go back out to the ranch for some 'fun & games'.
im going with john tate by 8 rd tko ...a friend of mine by the name of terry biggs in tennesee used to spar wit tate he said he punched to the body and it was real heavy....i think tate had poor managment right after loosing to weaver they should never let him in with berbick as a tune up after a devistating ko loss ....should have fought george chaplin then another guy like stan ward then fought berbick ....but tate tkos morrison
