tommy morrison vs 76 foreman

tommy wouldn't be able to run away from 74 Foreman. Plus he'd have 3 more rounds to deal with

 

I'd still take Foreman early 3 rounds or less.

No way he's getting away from even this version of George Foreman I'd always kind of felt like foreman really liked Morrison.. I felt like he may have even held back a bit against him, either that or he just couldn't pull the trigger because of his old age and lost reflexes.. I just feel like he was fine losing to Tommy if that makes sense. I'm not at all saying he threw the fight I'm just saying I don't remember him busting Tommy in the face like he did Holyfield or Michael Moorer.

Agreed. That fight was weird. Morrison was walking away from at times while Foreman was just sort of lazily following him around. Not much aggression from either man and a very out of character fight for both if truth be told.

 

I'd pick George inside 6. Morrison was fast enough to not get caught by an ancient Foreman when they fought. He could diengage and reset at will.
I don't see him having the same success against a much, much younger and more mobile 70's George.

Give Morrison credit where it's due-he had a gameplan and stuck to it-but no way that works against any version of 70's George.
He may find some success for a while-even Frazier did for a while in their second fight-but I see George getting Tommy sooner or later.

 

Yeah something tells me that even a 1976 Foreman was just a tad better than Michael Bentt or Ross Purity.... Not to go too far out on a limb...

 

The '76 Foreman (from Frazier 2) destroys Morrison inside 3. The rusty '76 Foreman (from the Lyle fight) still destroys Morrison inside 3. Remember, Lyle was in trouble in the second round of the Foreman fight. The round was cut short.

 

I can remember all the build up back then too, I even remember the goofy PPV add where Foreman was watching Morrison fight on tv and turning to the screen to say "that Morrison is good" then tommy shows up at his door comes they look eye to eye (stare down) and then the announcer says see the two heaviest hitters in boxing clash blah blah blah. I'm glad to see someone recognize what I also felt like I saw. It was a weird fight I remember at the time he'd have Morrison in a corner trapped and just wouldn't throw anything and they just kept commenting on how the reflexes were gone, had he never fought again I "might" agree with that but.......... Then that whole Moorer thing happened. I always felt Foreman either really liked Tommy and just couldn't lower the boom when he had the chance or he realized losing to Morrison wouldn't necessarily end him as he still had drawing power so he went about the fight just kinda half heartedly. Something is off and I don't think it was a product of Morrisons great boxing skills, I mean who the hell did tommy ever outbox??? He knocked you out or you knocked him out pretty much..

 

Foreman mentioned something about it in his book. He definitely was letting Morrison off. They seemed to be friends.

I remember that advertisement. Actually it was "morrison" who was watching TV as a child viewing Foreman in the 70's.. Then they fast forwarded it 20 years to an adult Morrison watching a comeback George when all of a sudden his front door fell down and george walks into his living room where they both had a standoff. But yeah it was a good one. I think another reason why Foreman lost that fight was because he was expecting another easy Gerry C00ney like knockout and simply took Tommy too lightly.. Didn't make any opportunities for himself nor take advantage of windows to land shots.. Either way it was a strange affair.

 

Apparently they hit it off really well when promoting the fight. Personally I have a hard time believing Foreman let Morrison off the hook though. The man was a killer in there, the old version being no exception.

 

The Duke gets stopped by the time six rounds were over.
