I like sanders’ chances better but anything can happen here. Both were early starters. Both could hit hard but neither much for taking it. Corrie might have had the slightly faster hands, slightly better stamina and a tad bit of height and reach which is why I like him.
He actually would’ve trained for Sanders. It would’ve been the only southpaw with any merit he fought.
That’s it. Golfer. From all I read he was enjoying that life. He was able to parlay his local celebrity into other options. Now I remember.
Apparently Sanders was a very good tennis player with a 125MPH server, and in his young days a ruby player ( Center ) of note It's a shame his life ended the way it did, he died a hero.
Yeah I’d favor Sanders too. I’d still give Morrison a slight chance only because of his power and early round tenacity. And as much as I hate to bring it up Corrie was stopped by a big shot early at the hands of journeyman Nate Tubbs. But for all practical purposes Sanders was a notch up better than Morrison.
I'd say 70/30 for Sanders. Here's the thing when you put two really big punchers in the ring, anything can happen. Since Morrison's conditioning and stamina were more of an issue, and IMO so was his chin he's not wining on points or late via TKO. If you combine these drawbacks, with he fact that he looked awful vs southpaws, I think the better skilled bigger and taller Sanders who also had the faster hands would win in the early to mid rounds. These two fast handed and hard hitting men would not be crossing swords, they would be dueling with pistols.
Tubbs was not a journeyman puncher, he could hit and had 14 KO's in 18 wins. Sometimes this happens at heavyweight, see Leiws, Wlad or Joshua. However Morrison was stopped but he lighter hitting Benttt. Sanders had a better chin, and proved it by taking a beating at the hards of Vitali Klitschko, and some hard shots vs the best version or Rhaman, until gassing out thanks to a leg injury which prevented road work. Morrison on the other hand was shaken up, or floored by a lesser punchers. I agree that Tommy has a chance, but if your arguing better durability i'm not buying that as a reason.
I re-watched the Morrison vs Mercer fight recently. Ah the days when prospects used to meet each other. Morrison was up 3-0. Mercer took his shots well. But by round 4, Mercer was getting to him and by round five Morrison vs tired, with his mouth wide open which is why he was Ko'd the way he was. This was Tommy's prime. Sanders went into the Rhaman fight inactive, with a leg injury, much older, and lasted longer. Sanders in the Rhaman fight just missed on a haymaker that would have ended it. Rahman after said, I've never been his like that in my life. IMO is Sanders who did zero road work for the fight would have won if he was in better shape.
I get it but why wasn't he in better shape for a big career fight like that ? Somehow the game didn't mean that much ti him and that does impact his overall ability to accomplish ..
"Sanders had previously given Rahman one of his toughest fights and had it not been for poor conditioning, This content is protected , could well have beaten him." https://allafrica.com/stories/200110180215.html
Given some of the struggles that Tommy had with lefties (Vaulin, Hipp), and his weak chin, I tend to make Corrie the favorite here. I wouldn’t be confident in the pick at all though.
