Whoever lands first. It's that simple, and that unpredictable. However, I'll abuse myself here, and take a stab at projecting further.:silly I think Earnie had the better chin. He could be hurt easily, and stopped, and he didn't typically respond to punishment with heightened resistance, but taking him out required a sustained assault. Even in the Quarry blowout, Jerry inflicted a tremendous amount of punishment before Shavers hit the deck. Earnie also stood up to the power of Lyle and Mercado for several rounds before falling from exhaustion, and he got up to take out Jeff Sims. Morrison was the better boxer with superior endurance based on Foreman alone. But unlike Earnie, he was far more prone to getting wiped out as the result of a single punch. The Michael Bentt footage concerns me more than JQ-Shavers and Shavers-Ellis when thinking about early trouble, as that was a version of Tommy who seemed to really have his career on track after Foreman. Place a gun to my head and I'd pick Shavers. If a single punch determined the outcome, Earnie would be more likely to produce it first. Any gambler who voluntarily placed a wager on the outcome should be institutionalized though, or placed under investigation.:nutcase
Both had **** chins, but I always liked how Shavers put his punches together. He was a good combination puncher, so I would give him the edge.
Shavers by knockout. Very early. I agree that Shavers has the better chin. Morrison gets stunned and hurt way easier compared to shavers, it takes a while to get shavers hurt and to finish him. It seems that Morrison is kind of open for the right hand (Michael Bentt and Mercer bouts) and I doubt he can take Shavers best shot. Shavers best chance would be to either come out blazing and look to KO him early.
shavers by ko early but if they fought more than once morrison could well land first the next time either way it would an early night
I think Morrison waxes Shavers within 3 rds.......:hey Morrison threw much better combos' and owned faster hands than Shavers ever did...... :deal Shavers cannot withstand the bombardment Mercer did in 1991.......:-( PLUS! Morrison really only got stiffed after eating a plate full of leather from "Mercer, Bennt and Lewis." One punch never stopped Morrison......:bbb MR.BILL:hat
Morrison was waxed by Bennt outta carelessness in 1993...... We all know that..... But Mercer got to Morrison after Tommy shot his load and was burned out at the start of round 5 in 1991........ Christ, Mercer took some wicked-ass leather for 4 rds....... Lenny Lewis was just in a whole different league...... Still, Morrison ate a lotta' leather before Mills Lane did Tommy the favor and waived-it-off in 1995....... Note: Morrison threw pretty combos' with power like a pro against Pink Thomas and Ray Mercer in 1991...... Morrison had skills.......... But, he'd be so charged up that if he didn't get rid of you within 5 rds, he himself would gas out.......... MR.BILL
Shaver's had a Bruno like chin. Pretty friggin' hard to actually floor, seemingly had no idea how to tie up however.
And Earnie was easy to tie up himself by somebody who knew how to clinch, which partly explains why he wasn't that great a finisher. That susceptibility to being physically neutralized is something to look for when evaluating who the best finishers are. Mercado was a good instance of this. After Bernardo got up, Earnie raced into him, only to have Mercado pinion those long arms to his sides repeatedly. Louis hammered away with short, hard shots, elbows tucked in, making it very difficult to clutch and grab him when he had somebody hurt.
Who lands first?? I will say Shavers, but if Morrison did then just flip the script here lol.. I will say Shavers gets to him and gets him out of there before Tommy gets him..
