Both have embarrasing 1st round knockout losses. Both made adjustments and became more well rounded boxer-punchers as time went on. Only reason Morrison has a better resume is because he won a belt via decision win over a fat 40 year old he literally ran from. Morrison had a murderous hook, shavers had a murderous everything. In a slug fest im going with shavers, but if Morrison uses his slighy edge in skill he can take shavers out later on in maybe 4 or 5 rounds. Either way it might resemble shavers vs lyle, very brutal with both men covered in lumps and hitting the canvas.
Good job OP. This is a great matchup. As GC Cobra said, if Morrison uses that fleet-footed style he used against Foreman, he outboxes Shavers and stops him. Either way I'm going with Tommy here. Since both fighters are considered glass-cannons, I can't really look at their firepower. Both have enough power to KO the other. I am gonna go with the better offensive fighter, the one who can get to the target quicker and more often (accuracy & combos). I'm going with Tommy but I don't feel confident at all lol.
Morrison was quicker and the better boxer at his best. Pick here is Morrison landing first and stopping Earnie early. However it certainly could go either way.
Absolute toss of a coin either way for mine. You could mount a case for either guy blowing the other guy out and you wouldn't be wrong and if they fought a series of fights you would possibly see both scenarios eventuate. Both had massive power, aggression, edge to Tommy for handspeed, edge to Earnie for two-fisted power, both had suspect stamina and chin issues. Really anyone could win on a given night.
Super great fight, imo in a fire fight Morrison gets hospitalized but if he stays calm and boxes the shavers gets embarrassed, and stopped, the longer the fight goes the more it favors Morrison, really tough fight to call, I will say that this is one of the trickiest H2H fight questions I’ve come across since joining this forum.
Morrison would come out blazing imo , trying to get Shaver out quick. He may get lucky and hurt him fast , get an early stoppage. But it could totally work against Tommy and Shavers could tag him rushing in .In which case , the games over fast for The Duke.
Morrison had the better skill but a shaky chin. Shavers had less skill but a bigger punch. I think whoever lands big first will win, and I suspect it would be Morrison. That said, you'd be a fool to bet on this fight because one good punch from Shavers and the guys in the back row are still going to catch splinters.
