In June 1959, 190-pound Floyd defends against 225-pound Tommy Morrison instead of Ingo. Assume Morrison from the Foreman fight is a boxer and puncher. Does Floyd's leaping left hook catch Tommy, or does Morrison's "industrial grade left hook" bounce Floyd off the canvas several times?
Taking Tommy by KO more often than not. I think Floyd would psych himself out by looking at Tommy, but if Floyd is aggressive he has a chance. But while prime Tommy wasnt "durable", he was at least durable enough to take a couple shots from Foreman and Mercer (definitely more durable here than he was against Bennt for example), and should be able to blast Floyd out with superior strength and power.
60/40 in favour of Patterson who was far more skilled, much quicker, had far better IQ and stamina. Of course Tommy would have held size/power advantage, but Patterson had more than enough power to KO him as well
Tommy's chin sometimes let him down but Patterson's chin was talcum powder against a much smaller class of fighter. I mean, I guess if Bentt could pull a rabbit out a hat so could Patterson but the more likely magic act here is Tommy's monstrous left hook dissolving Patterson's head into a fine red mist.
Take into consideration that if you match Floyd with Tommy you need to put someone in other's era. Floyd would be much bigger weight-wise with the roids in 90s while unroided Morrison would likely fight at 200-205 lbs at most so the size difference wouldn't be that big in either case
Weight/size matters. But where do we draw the line? For me, Patterson is a top 15 Cruiser. Morrison would be around 50 places lower, as a heavy (in my humble opinion). I'll go Patterson by referee's stoppage, as he is landing too many. and Tommy is befuddled. But can also easily see Morrison stopping him very, very early.
Patterson fought exactly two Punchers on Morrisons level...................and both laid him out. Pattersons power is completely unproven against top 15 6'2-6'5 220-250 pound fighters. fact. You need two set of hands to count how often Patterson hit the deck. They did not call him Tommy Chin for nothing but he was far more proven vs modern big Punchers. Morrison went 42-3-1............he is labeled as some kind of bum around here by the "experts"but he was a solid dangerous Top 15 contender/belt holder in his era Morrison lasted 6 vs Prime Lewis.....................for example, Botha/Grant/Rahman/Briggs/Golata did not make it that far, yet said "experts" talk some of those guys up big time...........even highly touted arm puncher VK only got a tie with TKO6. Morrison levels Patterson. Let me kn ow the last time a Ring entering 190 pound Fighter with a glass chin beat a skilled top 10-15 full size 220 pound tall modern Heavy Big time Puncher.
When two guys can & might lay one another out at any moment, I have to go with the guy who was far, far more proven & accomplished. Patterson by knockout.
Patterson easily. Again people here are bewitched by "a big puncher." Tommy Morrison was not a historically elite fighter covering any era from the 1880s to the 2020s. Floyd Patterson was. Flame away.
Because he crapped the bed twice against Sonny Liston … arguably a top 10 ATG and one of the most brutal punchers who ever stepped in a ring, plus Patterson was under enormous pressure from forces that had zero to do with actual boxing … Floyd Patterson is the single most disrespected human being on this forum.
