Indeed. As I say, I understand why you would come to that conclusion and it's a fair rationale. I'm certainly not saying there's no chance of that scenario occurring. However, I am a bit more forgiving of the Mercer loss. Sure, there are guys who might have continued through the cracking impact a breaking nasal bone brings to the head; not to mention the kind of extreme pain to disrupt the senses. But, in any event, it was a freak contact that Mercer made, in a bout he was being thoroughly out-boxed in. And, it's not like Mercer hadn't been catching him with good shots up until that point. Morrison had a big punch but not the variation in his armory or approach, in general. Damiani was clever enough to work that out pretty quickly and deal with it. Moreover, whilst I agree Damiani was not in the league of big punchers, I wouldn't consider Michael Bentt an exceptional puncher, either. But Damiani was certainly able to put his punches together well - possibly well enough to deliver the stoppage. Morrison has the puncher's chance but, if I'm betting on an outcome, I tend to favor the better Boxer and, to my mind, in this case, Damiani was just that.
I recall Mercer very badly damaging Damiani's nose, blood was pouring off his nose and onto the canvas like a faucet had been turned on. Very similar to the bad nose injury Bert Cooper gave to Willie de Wit. A freak injury of sorts in both cases.
Idk I’ve seen Mercer do a lot more damage than Tommy, like that one time he put the guy to sleep who was still standing up.
