Cooney should be favored. I think he stops Morrison within six.

Wow great bout. Conney 6 foot 6 Morrison at 6 foot 2. Weights and reaches?
I was never the same after seeing Cooney vs Norton Haha. I agree Conney should
Be favored. Honestly I believe its 50/50. Cooneys height giving Morrison trouble and
morrisons movement giving Cooney trouble. Haha double lefthook knockout.
I see tommy getting hurt then getting aggressive and stopping cooney with left hook
While being evasive and timing a perfect hook

Gerry Cooney by BIG RIGHT HAND!

Anyway, I think that Cooney fights nervously because of worrying about his whiskers and Morrison boxes like he did against Foreman. Morrison wins a close decision in a tentative bout with occasional moments of major excitement.

Could go either way, but Morrison actually showed some resilience and versatility in his career. I think either fighter could take the other out early, but if it manages to go into the middle rounds, I'd favor Morrison.

like this one man, good choice! my gut says cooney due to better jab and technique, able to set up an occasionally sloopy morrison. however as I got through the thread, i'm leaning a bit more towards morrison. cooney only lost against the best while morrison could be upset against lesser competition, especially if caught early. However, morrison showed an adaptability that i don't think cooney had. that plus, morrisons combination punching, speed and fluidity were amongst the best in 90s. cooney is a harder one punch puncher but can't match morrison's handspeed and combos. as kurgan mentioned, morrison could dance and outbox him ala foreman or if fighting toe to toe i think morrison could put his punches together better than gerry and score enough punches to get the knockout in a wild slugfest

Cooney threw that combination Victor Valle calls a reverse hook -- touch to the head and wrecking ball to the ribs.

Mickey Ward made a living on the same combo.

Cooney by reverse hook rib-breaking KO.

When I put this fight in my head I see Cooney winning and winning rather early like 2nd round knockout.

Insanely interesting match-up. The truth is that if they fought five times, it would be 3-2 for somebody. I actually think Morrison is the better overall fighter and would probably win three of five.

Interesting post, did he throw a straight right to the head followed by a left hook to the ribs? or a weak hook to the head followed by a hard hook to the body?
